Incredibly basic question.

Incredibly basic question.

2002-11-12 by mistersolemn

Hello, new guy here. Was wondering about this: I have a beat-up
cz1000. The "write" function is operational, but I lose any info
once I turn it off, even if I keep it plugged in. Is this normal, or am
I in need of repair?

Hi,

you need a new battery that preserves the RAM from being lost.
Unfortunately, I do not know (yet) how to change it; my CZ-1
is still reliable after 16 years. However, that should be a small problem.

Hi,
Replacing the bateries is easier than you thought. There is a battery
hatch on the botom of the keyboard. It takes 6 D cell (maybe C cells)
flashlight batteries.
If your batteries haven't run all the way down, you have a small amount
of time to get the new batteries in before you lose the memory.

are you sure about that? I gather the CZ 1000 and/or CZ-101 could work
on batteries, but the memory saving battrey is usually a small one hidden
in the synth!

No, Nathan's correct, there is no little back-up
battery, you just need to replace the 6 large
batteries in the hatch underneath, and you will then
be able to retain your patches.

Well---

After the suggestion that I actually, y'know, LOOK at the damn thing
(y'know, like, flip it over), I indeed discovered a small battery hatch with
3 terribly corroded AA batteries within. Haven't replaced them yet, but I'm
assuming that doing so will do the trick. Thanks for the help...

That happened to me, the problem is the corrosion killed the ability of the
cz101 to use any batteries. I just leave it plugged in now, but I noticed
that when I leave it unplugged for somewhat-but-not-too-long periods of time
it still retains patch memory. So there's something inside that has some
memory life.
