Hi,

they're both using Phase Distortion ... better known as Phase Modulation
what Yamaha calls FM...
Other then that, the CZ is PM in a subtractive box, so it's quite easy to
programm... 
The VZ synths are difficult to programm, other then most yamaha FM synths
you're able -with some limitations- to built up your own algorithms. Also
other operator waveforms are possible... That way the VZ sounds more like a
DX (but moslty warmer) then like a CZ synth..
Two week ago I started to write a little VZ programming tutorial, I don't
have much time and I'm not very far so I don't know when I'm ready with it.
Also every time I try to figure out how this things ticks I can't help
myself then starting to programm a new sound what gets me occupied for some
hours...  ;) but I'm going to upload it to the files section of that list,
as soon as I'm ready...
