The TX81z has similar sounds to the DX7, but I often hear the DX7 sounds warmer, which I, being a former owner of both, agree. This is apparently due to the 4-operator (oscillators?) architecture of the TX81z, while the DX7 has 6 operators (per voice). If you want to warm it up a bit you can always add some chorus or OD/distortion to it. Also, the TX81z has 8-voice polyphony and it's a module, a keyless version of the DX11. According to vintagesynth.com, the sounds of the CZ series are very similar to those on the DX line. (I never really played a CZ, only heard some samples. I'll eventually buy one of those cute CZ101's, hehehe) Daniel Ricardo Gabriel wrote: >Not downsized, but different. The TX81Z has 8 waveforms, and the DX-7 has >only one.
