Hi Daniel,

compared the DX7 (in my case a TX802) the TX81z sounds a bit thinner, is having 
less punch even when using about the same settings with the same amount of 
operators. 
Even so both synthesizers use phase modulation (but Yamaha called it FM and Casio 
Phase Distortion), a CZ sounds substantially different. I bought the CZ-1 1986 
while I got the TX81z in 1987 and in the mix I'm always able to tell them apart. 
Same technique, different implementation and different features, not all 
subtractive synths sound the same as well. 
The Casio VZ is closer to the DX7 architecture wise, but sound wise it's still 
it's like comparing a Moog to an Oberheim... ;)
