Re: Does Unisyn work properly with the vz8M?

2005-01-29 by steve_the_composer

I have never used Unisyn. Did you check out their website to see if
your version supports the VZ-8m?

According to the chart at
http://www.motu.com/products/software/unisyn/profiles.html/en

the vz-8m is supported.

Are you getting error messages on the VZ-8m?

If so, that will be a clue to what you may have to change on the VZ.
On the VZ-8m after powerup you need to make sure in TOTAL CONTROL
(1) MIDI DATA EXCLUSIVE = ENA and (2) MEM PROTECT INTERNAL = OFF.

For bulk sysex transfers of patches, your VZ channel and your sysex
channel must be the same. So if Unisyn lets you set the channel for
communication with the VZ, make sure it is the same as the unit
itself.

Also, for the bulk sysex data transfers, data type needs to be
specified.

Hope this helps.

Steve's Guide to VZ-8m error messages:

Message: --TRANS ERROR--- | CHECK SYSTEM!
Problem: Data channel <> VZ receive channel
Solution: Change VZ channel to match sysex file data.

Message: --MIDI ERROR--- | RECEIVE ERROR
Problem: Data type transmitted <> Data type expected
Solution: Select proper data type when loading data type into VZ.
