Casio CZ/ VZ/ FZ - Pro Series

I have a VZ10M that I'm having difficulty loading patches on.
Here's the steps I've taken.

1) connect VZ10M to my laptop using an M-Audio MidiSport Uno interface
2) on the VZ10M go to Menu3, turn off protection and change mode to
Load / Midi/ Voice
3) change midi channels to 1 for in and out
4) open midiox, check options / midi devices to verify it recognizes
midi in/out ports from uno.
5) select view / sysex
6) open .syx file with VZ10M patches.

i can watch the sysex file send, it's just that the VZ10M doesn't
respond to it. I know that the midi interface works with other synths,
and the vz10m's midi is fine because I'm able to trigger it with a
keyboard (if I disconnect the Uno).

any suggestions? I've used Bomes SendSX with my m1 rack and tx802 rack
and d550 rack with success, but it also fails to work with the VZ10M.
