need help w/ vz sysex patch transfer

2006-12-14 by j_sepeta

I have a VZ10M that I'm having difficulty loading patches on.
Here's the steps I've taken.

1) connect VZ10M to my laptop using an M-Audio MidiSport Uno interface
2) on the VZ10M go to Menu3, turn off protection and change mode to
Load / Midi/ Voice
3) change midi channels to 1 for in and out
4) open midiox, check options / midi devices to verify it recognizes
midi in/out ports from uno.
5) select view / sysex
6) open .syx file with VZ10M patches.

i can watch the sysex file send, it's just that the VZ10M doesn't
respond to it. I know that the midi interface works with other synths,
and the vz10m's midi is fine because I'm able to trigger it with a
keyboard (if I disconnect the Uno).

any suggestions? I've used Bomes SendSX with my m1 rack and tx802 rack
and d550 rack with success, but it also fails to work with the VZ10M.

I guess you executed the load commando inside the VZ-10?

Other than that you could try to reduce sent speed inside midi-ox by
increasing the delay times inside the configure menue...

I have a similar problem with my Roland MKS-50 (Alpha Juno 2).

Its the MidiSport that is the problem.

I hooked the MKS-50 up to the midi ports on my M-Audio 828mkII and ... voila! Works perfectly.

For some reason, midisports don't want to send and receive at the same time. They are junk as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't experienced this problem with my CZ1 yet, but I am only backing up the patches in the CZ1, not sending new patches.

The VZ10 probably suffers from the same problem as the Roland MKS-50, namely too much back and forth at the same time. My TX802 works fine with the midisport (I have an 8x8, usb connection).

My first advice would be to get a midi interface that is either PCI, FireWire or Serial port based. For some reason USB doesn't handle the bandwidth properly.

that's interesting, because USB has way more bandwidth than SysEx
needs to operate.

I ended up installing SoundDiver on my pc and it was able to send and
receive sysex just fine for my vz10m and ex-8000 using the midisport
uno. will try it in a day or so on my ESQ-M as well.

Howdy,
this may ba a stupid question but is your file machine cued up to
transmit when the VZ asks it to? is the file machine armed to record
when the VZ starts spewing out Sys. Ex. stuff?. The recoeder has to
be on first, and it can't play back until the VZ is ready for it, so
it better be armed and waiting for the request.
