RE: [CZsynth] Some very simple CZ-related questions :)

2010-01-03 by Alfons Martinez

Hello Ye Di:

I only have a CZ-5000 so I just can give you some answers to your questions:

1- The CZ-5000 has a patch backup power, thanks to 3 AA batteries. They are
not rechargeable, but they last for years (not just 1 year as specified in
the specs). Just check them sometimes to avoid leaking!

2- Yes, the RA-3 cartridge can be used with the CZ-5000. It can store 32
patches. But remember that you cannot access the cartridge patches directly,
you must load them in the "memory" patches (16 patches at a time, not
individually), replacing the actual ones in the memory. I do not think it is
a good way to store patches, unless you have several cartridges.

I had no luck using CZ editors, so I save the patches to my old PC via
MidiOx and sysex messages. Thanks to "Summa", who explained me years ago how
to deal with those sysex.

3- I do not know the CZ-1, but you are right: CZ-3000 and CZ-5000 are
identical if you forget the sequencer. And the sequencer is VERY poor.
Unless you are an absolute beginner, do not pay more for a 5000 if you can
find a 3000 cheaper.

4- The CZ-5000 is multi-timbral, but remeber that poliphony is only 16
voices. If you remember that most patches use 2 voices, you have only 8
voices to share in multi-timbral mode. You can assign the number of voices
(poliphony) for each channel.

5- Sorry but I have no answer. The CZ-5000 has specific connectors for a
sustain pedal and a foot volume pedal.

6- Please check the old messages in the Group. There was a link to a PDF
version of the little book supplied with the CZ titled "A quick approach to
sound synthesis". It is just some 20 pages explaining the basics of PD
synthesis. I have the original book in english / spanish, but I think it is
still sold by some web shops, and I wouldn't like to disturb anyone's
business. Please correct me if the book has become "free" and I can make a
copy.

7- The CZ-5000 cover is made in a very dark grey, practically black color.

Hope the answers may help you.

Happy new year !

Alfons

Asunto: [CZsynth] Some very simple CZ-related questions :)

Hi CZ-fellows,

Just wanna ask some really simple questions. I own a CZ-1000 but plan to
acquire
this year one of its bigger brothers, too. Soooo...

1. Does the CZ-1000 has got an internal backup-battery, in order to keep the
oversaved "internal" patches? I noticed, that my gear even "forgets" the
internals....

2. Does the RA-3 fits all the CZ-s? How many patches can be stored into this
in case of the:
CZ-1000
CZ-3000
CZ-5000
CZ-1?

3. Taking out the sequencer of the CZ-5000, the aftertouch keyboard and the
extra memory of the CZ-1, can we state, that the CZ-3000, CZ-5000 & CZ-1 are
basically the
same synths?

4. Are the CZ-3000, CZ-5000 and CZ-1 multitimbral?

5. Has anybody got any idea/suggestion how can I make my CZ-1000 respond to
a sustain pedal? I tried this thru another keyboard (via midi) but the
CZ-1000 didn't delivered the desired effect (which of course all my other
synths do in such manner). Being sad about this :(

6. There are some hard to find mystical CZ/PD synthesis books out. Any
sharing suggestion, any offer, guys?

7. And the last silly one :) Pictures on the web are inexact in this way,
so:
Is the CZ-3000 black-colored?
Is the CZ-5000 black or gray-colored ?
Is the CZ-1 black-colored?

Thanks for paying attention to these boring questions of a CZ-newbie :)

Have a fine new year full of nice synthesis :)
Yours truly,
Y
