My CZ-1000 has a compartment for a bunch of big D cell batteries.
I think there's a capacitor that will preserve the memory for a short time while you change them. 
I remember that the random patches generated when the batteries got low were interesting and sometimes useful.  Sometimes they read values different than what you could actually enter from the front panel.
