If the 3 batteries don't power the keyboard (I doubt they do) then they must be to keep the patches. My cz101 can hold patches for a few minutes, but without a connection to power or batteries in it the patches do get erased. I've modified mine to hold a single 9v, instead of 6D batteries because it is just cheaper and is more efficient. I installed a 9v clip inside the cartridge slot, and it looks pretty professional. I hate hodge podge mods. I shouldn't run the keyboard on batteries any longer, but I'm fine with that. There's a mod to double the patch storage that's pretty easy, and I want to add a front light on the display.
