Can someone help me restore a CZ-230s?

Can someone help me restore a CZ-230s?

2002-10-08 by Darrell

Hello:

Let me introdduce myself as the "new guy". I'm Darrell, and I just
joined the group. I bought an old Casio CZ-230s on eBay for nostalgia
purposes, the last time I had and used this keyboard, I was 12 years old. Let's
just say that the memories and countless hours in front of it felt just the same
as they did 16 years ago. :-)

My point is this: a couple of the sounds that I really dug, and
thought basically were "the shit" were in banks 96-99 (that 99 sweep kicks
ass), but the CZ that I got had those 4 erased. I've since come to find out that
those 4 patches can be edited/modified, and in my case, erased. :-( 99 was
the primary f*cking reason that I got the damn thing, and for this sound to be
gone, takes a good amount away from my enjoyment, though I still cherish it
well.

Is there any way to restore these 4 patches, either by way of a
reinit (hold 7 buttons down while turning on and standing on head), or does
someone have a backup of their 95-99 in the required format.

Any help would be appreciated, email me at dfulwilder@......there, I'm
done babbling now. :-)

Take care!

Hi Darrell,
There are two ways to get these 4 patches back. You can do a system
Reset/initalize, or send the proper MIDI sysex patch.
The system initalize is done by holding the yellow cancel key "c"
down, while powering on the CZ230S. This method will erase any drum
patterns you have saved in memory, and will reset a few other normally
saved settings, like pitch bend amount, transpose, MIDI channel.
The initalize is necessary when the CZ230S has been without power
for any extended amount of time, as is with all of the CZ series. An
un-initalized CZ will act as if it is broken.
I have uploaded the proper MIDI sysex file to the Files section.
"intall.syx" This method will restore the 4 original patches, while
keeping any saved patterns/settings intact.

I also have the 100 CZ230S patches converted to banks of 16, for use
on the other CZ's on my webpage, if anyone wants to try them. And an
MP3 of my CZ230S there too! (These synths are badass.)
