Hohner HS-2/E (VZ10m) backlight

Hohner HS-2/E (VZ10m) backlight

2003-03-27 by prog_uk

I've recently picked up a bargain Hohner HS-2/E (Casio VZ10m) and am
unsure if the backlight is on its way out or not as it's a little
dim. I know backlights can fail but do they just die suddenly or do
they get dimmer over time? Can anyone advise please?

Thanks in advance.

HI,
VZ's are notorious for having the backlights fail. YOu can get a small
light and illuminate them from the front, or get a replacement foil and
do surgery. I went for the small light... I think they sort of fail
slowly. There is a brightness feature, though. Hold down the "display"
button and move the "value" slider. There's a German company that makes
the foil replacements, though I don't have the link any more. Maybe
somebody else has it?

EL panels like in the VZ, numerous wristwatches, etc. have a limited
lifespan- they gradually get dimmer until they're not emitting any light
anymore. I really wish Casio used an LED backlight instead of the EL panel.
It is a pretty shade of blue though.

PS: Wish I had an HS-2/E. My VZ-10M is nice but it just doesn't look as
cool as the hohner one.
