cz_1 problem

2003-07-27 by martinjmcdonald

Hello,
My cousin had a cz-1 and somehow lost all of his sounds. He then
gave it to me. I figured out the other day throught this group that I
could reset it by using the initialize button. I did this and the
sounds came back according to the display but I have not been able to
actually get any sounds from the keyboard.. I'm just wondering if
anyone knows what the problem is. Should i try to fix it or junk
it? thanks

whatever you do, don't junk it!!!

i'm sure me and a few other people here would be glad to pay shipping for
it.

my first guess would be to replace the battery (if it's dead). also, did
you try both line outputs and the headphone jack? have you tried sending
it MIDI notes?

Excellent advice!!

Put me on the waiting list.

Excellent advice. Also test:

1. Midi in: Does the CZ-1 visually respond to patch changes via
    midi (in display)?
    --specific test for suggestion above

2. Midi out: Does the CZ-1 send midi data (note on/off, pitch bend,
modulation, patch changes, etc.) to a sequencer, utility,
    other gear, etc.
--If so, the CZ-1 makes an excellent controller, even without
      using internal sounds.

3. Try sending a sysex patch dump to the CZ-1. Does that help?

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

PS:

Is there any hiss coming out of the audio. Try using the headphone
output. When you move the volume from 0% to 100% is there an
increase in hiss? At 100% volume, does moving the chorus slider from
0% to 100% increase the hiss? (I just tested this with a spare pair
of computer speakers, using a miniplug to 1/4" stereo adapter.)

If the answer to both is yes, there would seem to be some audio
circuitry working.

Hope this helps.

Have you checked "Local Off" -MIDI- could be that the keyboard is not
triggering the sounds.

on my CZ-1 the local control always defaults to "on" whenever it's powered
up.
