Just bought my CZ-1!

Just bought my CZ-1!

2003-11-20 by David Weaver

Hey gang, I just bought a MINT CZ-1 for $150! I'm psyched, as I love
the CZ, and I plan to use this as a master controller too. I have a
question regarding sysex dumps. How do I go about loading new sysex
data files into the CZ-1? Here's the setup so far: MIDI ON/OFF is
lit, In the MIDI mode, I'm on Poly, ch=01, kbch=01, prg=ena. Under
CARTRIDGE/MIDI, when I scroll to "LOAD MIDI DATA (Y/N)?" and push
YES, I get "MIDI DISABLE", which doesn't seem right. I don't have the
docs for the CZ-1, so if anyone can walk me through.

I'm planning on using a generic MIDI sysex util like MIDIOX. Thanks!

Dave

You need to enable midi sysex. Click the MIDI button, then then Value ^
button. Select
Exclusive=on. Now the sysex should work.

Awesome, thanks for the help! Another questions is this. Are there
some patches in ROM and in RAM (like the 101), or are the 64 patches
all in RAM? I tried dumping some syx patches via MIDIOX last night
and they seemed to mostly dump in bank E and F. The original patch
names were there, but the new sound was present. Probably because
they're cz-101 patches which you can't name?

I would LOVE to find an English CZ-1 manual, hard copy or PDF
somewhere. Anyone know where I could find one?

Dave

the CZ-1 has only RAM. However, you can recall the factory presets by
pressing Initialize
while powering on.

Yes.

I have only the german one. Maybe Casio has one left? Ah, and:

http://www.sonicstate.com/synth/cz1.cfm
are of some interest.

Casio has a number in New Jersey you can call for old CZ manuals. I
believe they are hard copy -no PDF's (I may be wrong)
Casio LIVE SUPPORT 9:00AM-5:00PM E.S.T.Mon-Fri
973-252-7570

There is also a music company in New York City called Rogue Music who
will sell you copies of the original CZ synth manuals (I'm pretty
sure they have the CZ-1) You might want to try and look them
up. ...I can't remember the contact information.
