M/T help thanks

M/T help thanks

2004-06-01 by texhand

Thanks for the responses. The schematic for connecting the 8 pins to a
in and out on a recorder would be nice. I would really like the
ability to store sequences to a tape interface.. Thanks for the imput!

Re: M/T help thanks

I just got the multimeter out. The following numbering is looking
>>AT<< the 8 pin din plug [male] with the notch at top [V]. (Periods
are used for white space so. Pin 8 is actually between the 7-1 and 6-
2 rows.) This would correspond with counterclockwise numbering on
the 8 pin din recepticle [female] on the CZ-5000.

.....V.....
..7.....1..
6....8....2
..5.....3..
.....4.....

white remote switch sleeve - 1
white remote switch tip - 7
[submini]

black playback sleeve - 4
black playback tip - 3
[mini]

red record sleeve - 4
red record tip - 5
[mini]

Note the symmetry:

pin 3 = play signal
pin 4 = play/record common
pin 5 = record signal

pins 1 & 7 = remote switch

I suppose if you accidentally wire it as a mirror image, just switch
the play and record plugs rather than take apart and rewire the whole
thing (assuming the remote switch is a simple open/close switch with
no polarity).

Hope this makes sense; hope this helps.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find my cz data tapes. I did find a KORG
EX-800 tape, tough.

Thanks-- I am deducting than one only needs the 3,5,and common 4?
1&7 for remote,(not necessary)
2,6,8 of no use? or what would 2, 6, 8, connect for?

Anyway thanks for your effort

Nope. I forget the actual size. I am used to calling the standard
size down from 1/4" phone plugs "mini plugs" and the next standard
size down from that "sub mini plugs." That's just the way I heard
them.

Mini plugs are the ones you find most commonly (at least in the US)
on sound cards (analog audio in/out), CD/DVD drives (headphones),
etc. My cordless phone takes a trs (tip, ring, sleeve) sub mini plug
for the ear piece/mic. (Sorry I don't have a cell phone.)

They look like 1/4" phone plugs only smaller. Plus the tips are
shaped a little different than the 1/4 plug. They are not to be
confused with RCA connectors.

Hope this helps.

As for 2, 6 and 8, I am not sure. All I did was take the multimeter
and compare the tips and rings on the plugs with the 8 pins.

CZ-5000 MT to PC audio save-load-verify test

2004-06-01 by steve_the_composer

I just did a test. There was a grounding problem hum on the PC audio
when the CZ and PC were connected (MT red record to PC mic in).
Neverless, I recorded an A/B digital audio dump, a C/D digital audio
dump, and a sequencer digital audio dump. All three verified OK.

Next, I changed an A/B preset and compared it with the digital audio
dump from the PC. There was a verify error.

So, I loaded back in the original A/B, got an OK on the load,
reverified, and got an OK.

It would seem that despite the hum, it worked.

I used Sound Forge XP 4.5 for the test.

Opinion: If you have sysex capability for patch and sequencer dumps
on a PC, I'd recommend that over digital audio dumps!

Hope this helps

Thanks for the leg work and any other imput for use of the M/T is most
appreciated...

Thanks

--- Steve the composer-- did you connect to the pc using just the
record and play back mini's on the m/t cable you have? I am am just
curious if just those two plugs will do the interface!

Sometimes I've found that you can red rid of grounding hum by
disconnecting the ground from one of the connected devices. This is easy
with european Schuko plugs ( http://kropla.com/!f.htm ,) by taping over
the grounding strips on the plug. Depending on the type of plug it might
be more or less tricky, and/or impossible. Also beware of the risks for
running a device designed to be grounded without grounding!

Another option is to experiment with running the devices in the same or
totally different (usually at the other end of th house ;) outlets. Both
may sometimes aid in killing the ground loop.

On the other hand a ground loop is a steady hum, and modern audio
software can remove hum when given a sample with a bit of just the hum
and nothing else :)

Nice to know that even after 8 years, the info is still helpful.
