OT: dw8000

OT: dw8000

i recently had a non-functional dw8000 given to me and with the help of
people from discussion lists like this, was able to get it working.
right away, i started modifying the patches. i learned to program on a
poly 800, so it was very familiar territory. even if you've never
programmed a synth before, you'll find it's not a difficult task.
waaayyy easier than the cz101. for me anyway. the digital delay is
great. really minimizes the need for outboard fx. and i absolutley love
the arpeggiator. in assignable mode it's almost like a sequencer. it
follows the notes in the order you play them. this thing has tranformed
some of the grooves i work with. i'm finding it a little hard to
arpeggiate the same thing twice, but that's also part of the attraction.
i have a manual pdf i could send you but it's also on one of the yahoo
groups, DW8000 or korgdw8000, can't remember which. you may as well join
them both. some very good samaritans there. they saw me in the ditch
passed out under the dead weight of my dead synth and said brother, you
need capacitors and voltage regulators. here, drink and eat, and plug in
that soldering iron...

haha..if only someone could help me fix my CZ 101...it's kind of a weird problem, but
hey, they thing is still functional. You may have already heard about my problem, but
just in case you haven't, I can't access banks 9 - 16. It locks up when I try. I looked
inside and a ribbon cable is detached from the board. I had a friend of mine solder it
back on (I'm horrible at soldering) and the synth didn't work, so we detached the
cable and it worked again.

Maybe someone here will know how to fix this problem one day...

Re: [CZsynth] OT: dw8000

2005-02-12 by josephex@josephexperimental.com

I've seen a picture of what it's supposed to look like, and attached it back as such.
Apparently, something else was wrong and dettaching the cable evidently helped the
thing continue to work, but only with tones 1-8.

The problem that's happening is when I hit "select" the synth locks up. It goes right
into tone mix mode
, vibrato turns on, and you can't change anything until you turn it on and off again.

When the cable is attached, the LCD screen is blank. Wether the synth makes any
sounds or not, I don't know because I did not have it hooked up to an amplifier or
anything. But as far as I could tell, I could do nothing with it.

I have taken the CZ101 apart several times and put it back
successfully. I have it open now (several of the buttons stick). If you
can send a picture of what is detached perhaps I can send you a picture
of what it supposed to look like.

One more thing, if you give me your e-mail address, I can send you a picture of what
I got that it was supposed to look like, and circle where mine is disconnected.

Okay, I have to admit that I just bought a Korg EX-8000 (rack version
of DW8000) on eBay to "supplement" my VZ-1. Thanks to you guys, I just
discovered Korg's hybrid range and they really are superb. Together
with the VZ-1 it's an awesome live setup! Thanks for the encouragement :o)

...but no worries, my Casio VZ-1 is still the best :o)

Cheers
Fritzi
