I bought my VZ used about 1999 and the display showed similar problems, but it
wasn't packed well for shipping anyway. Since it's been a while since I opened
the VZ I'm not sure anymore what exaclty I did but I think it improved a bit
after opening the display and cleaning the contacts between electronics and when
combining display and electronics, I pressed the the two parts together as hard
as possible.

Mine is still shifting a few lines every now and then, but I hardly see the
display since CZ and VZ are place above each other on a Keyboard holder, and
besides turning off the memory protection I mostly use the computer to control
the VZ-1...

I don't think it's a serious problem, in my case the Keyboard suffered from
transportation as well, so I had to open the synth anyway, fortunately it wasn't
too hard to fix...
