My CZ-1000's cartridge turns into noise-why?

My CZ-1000's cartridge turns into noise-why?

2005-12-11 by runbeerrun

I create patches on my CZ-1000, turn off write protect and save them
to the cartridge. Then I flip back and forth betweenb presets, and
saved patches on the cartridge, and eventually the cartidge presets
all turn into noise.

Is the cartridge faulty?

My best guess is that the battery on the cartridge need to be replaced.

Some diagnostic questions:

(1) Do patches save OK to internal memory?
(2a) Are there batteries in the cartridge?
(2b) If there are, are they any good?
(3) What model is the cartridge?

I think my ram cartridge is defective.

It saves correctly to the internal banks. I couldn't get my Radio
Shack battery tester to test this battery, so I bought a new battery.
The same problem:you save to cartridge, it plays ok until you switch
presets and then go back to your saved preset on the cartridge. The
ram cartridge now sounds like space aliens and bells.

It's a Casio RA-3 ram cartridge.

It also doesn't power up correctly w/Ram cartridge in

It doesn't always power up with the ram cartridge in, sometimes a lot
of lights turn on but no sound, sometimes the display window says
nothing.

Is there a way to reset the CZ-1000 to factory settings? Maybe that
would help?

Sounds like it could be eitehr the RAM or perhaps the interface. I
discovered I have bent pins in my CZ-1. I have used the EZ-CZ
cartridge with success; never had an RA-3.

Space aliens and bells sounds like the patches you get by stuffing a
peset with "illegal" data via sysex. Not sure what would cause that in
ram cartridge.

Do you get the same alien sound repeatedly in specific ram slots?
(That is, does ram preset 4 always sound the same?) That may give you
some clues as to where the problem is.

Cartridge out=no internal memory gets saved?

2005-12-13 by runbeerrun

I saved to the cartridge, sounded ok. Turned it off and on about 10
times, all checked out fine. Saved to internal memory too, that was
fine. Then I turned it back on again and it wouldn't turn on, so I
removed the cartridge.

Turned on fine after that, but now my internal memory patches are gone.

This unit is pretty cheap.
