Hello, I have had a cz for years now and I actually use it live with my band I am the World Trade Center. I am now trying to control a roland D2 with it just to play some sounds live. The problem is that the midi out velocity seems to be rather low. Is there any way to force it to output at 127 or at least louder than it is? dan

You must be using the CZ-1, I've noticed that on mine too. You really have to hit the key pretty hard to get anything with a velocity greater than 115 out of it. I think that there are 2 appraoches you could take to get around the problem, run the MIDI thourgh somehting like a laptop with a sequencer to add a couple of increments to the velocity(there might be some standalone device for doing this too) or change the patches to respond to velocity differently on the devices that you are controlling. Most modern synths will let you change velocity sesnitivy and /or response curve, not sure how the D2 works with this though.

Well if you have a MIDI patchbay like MX-8 or similar, I think it can be programmed to scale the velocities and do other useful tricks. dan@... wrote:

I am actually using a 1000, no velocity sensitivity, that is really the problem I guess. It seems like the default output is super low I don't know what to do because I can really only take one keyboard with me as we generally fly to most of our gigs. I might have to find a replacement for the ol' CZ! --- In CZsynth@y..., "Furman, Jon W." <jfurman@t...> wrote: > You must be using the CZ-1, I've noticed that on mine too. Midi Solutions , I think, stills makes those pocket side midi gadgets, one of them does velocity rescaling. (Anatek used to make them too before they folded) ... but I would like to recommend the Oberheim Navigator, one of Oberheim's "Perf-X" series - it was a totally cool series of MIDI message manipulators in flat plastic cases. The Navigator has velocity remapping, and a whole lot more. You might be able to find one cheap still. Of course, these boxes have the worst interface ever created - they're useless without the manual! ===================== The Perf-X series Navigator: Midi message remapping - rescale, transform, rechannel, and more Systemizer: Midi note remapper - not only can you create keyboard zones, you can "rotate" the note assignment amongst "groups" of zones - Meaning you can use use a CZ101 in mono mode (responding to 4 contiguous midi channels), and by repeatedly playing a note get 4 different notes in succession - very cool. Cyclone: an incredibly powerful, flexible arpeggiator - the most sought after Drummer: never used one - a type of rhythm pattern generator - any one here used one? Strummer: never used one - a kind of arpeggiator, supposed to make natural guitar "strums" from midi input I heard there was another one called the "Chordator" , but I don't know for sure if this was ever actually marketed, or if it really existed. I have programmed CZ-3000 sounds into the Korg Wavestation EX. With the VS waveforms you can emulate the analog-style CZ- sounds. Ring-modulation sounds are difficult, since the Wavestation doesn't have ring-modulation. --- Groeten G. Tiemens gtnet@...

Does it have this problem with both the line out and the headphone out? Make sure that you back up your patches first but one thing to do is to reset the system (use a needle to push the P button on the back), that might fix it. The CZ's get scrambled every so often and this usually clears up any troubles due to this. I've never seen a "confused" CZ have a volume problem alone but I suppose it's possible. Jon

Looking at the midi implementation chart it is clear the only velocity value I am going to get out of this thing is 67. Not really going to cut it in playing patches over the sequencer on my D2...
