Anybody have midiquest 9.1 working with the VZ10m? Any tips? I can't seem to get a dump of the contents of my VZ10m into midiquest, not sure what I am missing. Help? Thanks,

Hi Chris, I have Midiquest 9.1 but I don't have a VZ (yet). My CZ1 did not work with MQ 9.1 and they sent me a new updated profile that allowed me to capture all 64 patches. All I did was e-mail support and they worked with me. They mentioned Casio's sysex doc's were quite sketchy for all these synths. The great news is I've since been working with them to rewrite the CZ-1 profile. I've sent all the sysex for the Patch Names, Velocity for DCO,DCW,DCA, and the biggie all the sysex for the Operation Memories. This was quite a task that involved a bunch of time but it will be worth it to be able to use MQ with every aspect of this synth... To make things short try to contact them through support if they won't help contact me offlist and I'll try to see what can be done. This is very surprising to hear. I thought Casio's sysex documentation was clearly spelled out and available (even it it was quirky). In fact, I got started on sysex with the Casio CZ System Exclusive Guide. Do you know what caused them problems? Just wondering. --Steve

Re: CZ-1 sysex I just got out my CZ-1 sysex manual and realize perhaps it was never published. I have one that I got from Casio Product Support decades ago. It is a photo copy and has Japanese written on it. I always assumed this was an advanced copy that was undergoing proofreading for final publication. I can't believe I am the only one who has this document. It is set in the same type as the Nov. 1985 CZ MIDI Guide. (I thought I shared some of the contents from this over the years.) Anyhow, send request 3 gets you the op-mems: F0 44 00 00 7n 12 dd . . . F7 (following the same handshaking protocol for earlier CZs -- CZ ack/reply/F7) Of course, to send the opmem data, the 6th byte is 22 (Same pattern for Casio CZ send/receive requests.) Sorry you had to spend time trying to figure it all out. I believe the CZ-1 also has some sysex commands not in prior CZs. I will have to do a comparison to tell you which. In case you haven't figured it out, you can switch CZ-1 modes via sysex. Here's the command: F0 44 00 00 7n 4D dd F7 where dd is as follows: Normal mode - 00h Tone mix mode - 20h Key split mode - 40h Op-Mem - 60h You can move the cursor via sysex, select menu pages, turn multi- mode on and off, choose the number of poly, set the pitch of tone 2 (tone mix mode), set the split point, enable and disable the sustain pedal, turn chorus on and off, and a couple of other things. Perhaps the reason why the folks at Midiquest said the sysex was sketchy was because they didn't have the sysex manual. Do you still need the layout of the Op-Mem data formats for the 3 modes? --Steve

Here's the start of it. Looks like I got too tired to type it all in. http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/CZsynth/message/2014 BTW, I searched the archives for: steve cz-1 sysex to find this message. Again, sorry you had to spend time trying to figure it out. The info's been here for almost 2 years! (Sorry if you asked for help with CZ-1 sysex before and I didn't reply.) --Steve --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "steve_the_composer" wrote:

I don't know anything about using midiquest, so I can't help out there. A while ago I posted a couple of problem/solutions for getting the VZ to do bulk transfers based on the error message received. Not sure this applies to your situation, but in any case, give it a look: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/CZsynth/message/2289 --Steve --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "dodgingrain" <Chris@...> wrote: > > Anybody have midiquest 9.1 working with the VZ10m?
