Soundiver issues with CZ-101

Soundiver issues with CZ-101

2006-09-19 by caveprecise

Hi all-

I've had my CZ-101 for maybe a year now, and of course now I don't
know what I'd do without it. Until recently I've loaded patches
from my Mac (OS 9) with a simple utility called Sysex 480. Now I'm
trying to switch over to Soundiver 3.0 as I'd like to get into
onscreen editing, compilation of new banks, etc.

Soundiver works (although temperamentally) with my other synths just
fine, for the most part. With the CZ, it requests data just fine.
With some coaxing, I was also able to switch tones around within the
internal memory bank. I was not able to open (via the import
command) sysex banks in the CZ-101 device window. I was forced to
open them in "general sysex," but I was unable to then transmit from
general sysex to my CZ synth.

So my questions:

Can anyone help me through my Soundiver troubles? Or am I better
off trying an older, dedicated CZ editor/librarian? Maybe I should
run Atari emulation?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

And thanks for a group I have quietly appreciated since shortly
after purchasing my CZ.

Best,
Ron

I have worked flawlessly with my old Atari 1040 (which i suppose you can
pick up for free some place). It never goes down or times out. As a midi
editor it is super stable and there is no noisy fan. I have also
purchased a copy of SoundDiver for the PC/MAC. My good - it is hell!

Thanks to Tim and Bob for that!

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a non-hellish program for
interfacing with a CZ (-1) synth through a Mac (a G4 to be precise)?

Thanks Peter. Maybe Atari emulation is the way to go then, although
it just seems like one more thing to fool with.

There has got to be a way to make Soundiver work with CZs, else why
would there be a CZ module built in the program?

After hunting down SoundDiver updates and bringing myself current to
3.0.5.2, I am now able to transmit from general sysex to the CZ-
101. And with the workaround (open banks in "general sysex" device,
transmit to CZ, then request data from CZ with CZ device) I will be
able to slowly put together what I need.
Thanks.
