Casio CZ/ VZ/ FZ - Pro Series

This is my first post here - thanks in advance for your help..

I've had a CZ-101 since the mid 90s - love it...

Recently I bought another CZ-101 off craigslist for $30. This "new" CZ-101 will power on but only for a brief instant and then remain shut off (until plugged in again). The power LED and other LEDs + the LCD display flash upon power up, but only for half a second or so - then everything goes dead. When the power jack is unplugged (from the 9V DC in socket) and then plugging in again, powering up yields the same thing and the cycle repeats...

The power supply I'm using works with my "old" CZ-101 so it seems like it's some problem with the "new" CZ-101's power circuitry..

I haven't tried it with batteries yet; I suppose I should...

Any ideas about what could be done to fix it? I have basic soldering skills and a rudimentary understanding of electronics, etc...

Howdy,

 Does shaking it or banging it make them blink? Does the power supply get warm if left on? Can tou take an amperage draw test on it? You may want to check for a shorted capacitor on the power input circuit. If you can get the lights to blink by shaking, etc. look for a cold solder joint or semi broken wire or PCB trace.
