Sending patches from Soundlib via Midiman Sport 1 Channel

Sending patches from Soundlib via Midiman Sport 1 Channel

2002-03-02 by garyt82148

HI,
I have a CZ5000 that I recently bought off EBAY. It's in Near-Mint
condition, like a Rip Van Winkle synth that slept through 16 years
with nobody playing it (complete with Casio metal-reinforced
case)...Anyway, as for patches, I rely on those found in the CZ Series
Starter Kit. I also have a CZ1000 (which I plan to put up for bid)
before the CZ5000. Transferring patches from Soundlib via Midiman was
easy with the CZ1000: I had a handwritten list of the patches I liked
from the 2750 found on the Starter Kit floppy. All I had to do was
find the one or two patches I liked in the banks, press "Test" and
send it to the CZ1000 memory or cartridge 1 - 16 possibilities. I
find that I can't do that with the CZ5000. When I send a test patch to
the CZ5000 I press and hold down "Write", then press "A" of memory,
then "1" it says "Write OK" but it lies--the patch is NOT stored.
What am I doing wrong? The 3 AA's are good, too. Was I using Soundlib
incorrectly from the start? Would it be better to store ALL the 2750
patches to the Library and then choose the ones I really want, create
new banks from them, and then "midiman" them to the casio? Has
anybody had a similar problem? Should I email the guy who sold me the
CZ Series Starter Kit? I've emailed him several times. In fact, he
told me to put some fresh batteries in the CZ1000, but the previous
owner had REMOVED (!!) one side of the + or - side to go on a fishing
expedition into the innards of this CZ1000--one of those
www.sonicstate.com fishermen. I had not been aware that the C or D
batteries aided in storing the patches!!!
Anyway...any ideas? Thanks Oh Troy, you might give the CZ Series
Starter Kit a try on EBAY

The CZ series have some strange little differences in how they
handle MIDI patch dumps. On the CZ500/3000, if you dump a single
patch, it should be written to the edit buffer. However when you go
to
save this it writes the unedited patch of the current preset. To
write
the patch you just sent to the CZ5000/3000's edit buffer you must
make
some change to one of the preset parameters. For example go to DCO 1
and change the waveform once then back to the starting setting. Now
the "compare/recall" light should be lit. The patch is now in the
edit
buffer and can be saved to a preset slot. A pain but it works.
I had a patch editor doing random patches and had the same trouble
saving the sent patch. And discovered if I edited the patch, I could
then save it.
Some day I'll have to write a FAQ on the different behavior of the
various CZ models.

Found a source of Manuals for VZ series in the UK

2002-03-12 by Richard F

This is a message for all of those VZ** series owners without a manual.
I have just spoken to a delightful young lady at Casio UK who can supply
a photocopy of the manual for my VZ10m for a pitiful £5 inc. of postage.

The telephone number is: 020 8208 9567 (UK Only)

Good luck everyone

Hi Maxim,
Orbital Decay has been fairly active recently. Played two live radio
broadcasts in the past few months, one on WXPN Phila,PA, one on WDIY
Bethlehem. And did a live show last month in Bethlehem,PA. Had my
Casio CZ-1, VZ-1 and AZ-1 with me. A review and a cool pic of me
wearing my Casio Cosmo Synthesizer shirt, tuning a Minimoog in front
of my CZ-1 can be seen here:

Perhaps our fourth CD release soon.

I Really enjoyed that photo (in Terry's link).
Then I asked myself why I like it so much.
-it wasn't because it looked like a Tangerine Dream stage setup.

It was because there's something "right" about a CZ taking its' place next
to some real analog Moog gear on stage- for everyone to see.
- maybe I'm just a nut- but that photo made me feel that VISUALLY the Casio
CZ had finally taken its' place as a PROFESSIONAL instrument.

I've always known the CZ was a professional SOUNDING instrument- from
using it myself- and seeing it marked in grease pencil on a mixing board at
a Eurithmics Album Mixdown in the 80's (I was just visiting the studio).

Thanks for sharing that photo Terry.

:)

Mystery Keyboards

 Hi Maxim,
Been away for a few weeks, sorry for the late response.
Those keys do look strange in that picture. There are little red
lights under each tier for stage lighting. Looks like a bunch of LED
indicators on unidentifiable keyboards. They are actually a Fatar
SL-161 on top, Casio VZ-1 in the middle with a Kurzweil ribbon
controller (and a Nord Micromodular stuck on the right end), and a
Yamahe SY-35 on the bottom.
