Help! VZ-8m

2002-04-01 by Maxim Potekhin

People,

recently I noticed that some patches on my VZ-8m became corrupted.
Interestingly enough, this applies to INT patches only -- is this
an indication that the battery's dead? The card patches all seem fine.

What kind of battery do I need to buy and is it hard to replace
it?

What's the procedure to do a factory reset, may that would restore
patches?

The patch names in the affected patches all contain kanji and other
cool and unusual characters, I like it very much but I would
also like to play the synth :)

The factory reset on the VZ-8M is done by holding in the
"write/copy/init" button while powering on the unit. This will erase
all user presets and operation memories and set them to the internal
ROM bank 1 settings. So back-up if you can. The reset is quick, about
a half second, with no prompt screen asking if you really want to
initialize settings. It should read "SYSTEM ALL INITIALIZE OK!". If
not there may be another problem.
Probably a near dead backup battery. There are a pain to replace as
they are soldered onto the circuit board. I usually replace them with
a battery clip/holder. But I have never replaced one on a VZ yet.
