Hi everyone, after having read through the variuos posts in this forum, I am pretty sure that I have this "classical" relay problem. In theory I understand what needs to be done, but where can I find the relays? How can I indentify them as such? How do I bypass? The synth works otherwise and I could get some really great sounds out of it - would be great to get it to work properly again! Thanks for your help!

Vintage synth forum contributions: http://www.vintagesynth.com/casio/cz1.php suggest the relay is to the "right side of the panel". If there is a problem with it - then ebay provides a lot of electronic parts for cheap. ________________________________

Thanks for this! I think I will be able to identify the relays now... If anyone has a precise info on where they are located, would be helpful though. I downloaded the schematics under files in this forum, but I can't really find what I need. Next question would be whether I should replace these relays or bypass them... and how would I do that? (I am not too bad at soldering) Thanks again! --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, Lee Borrell <templarser@...> wrote:

Hi Fab8, I used the part mentioned in my earlier post here: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/CZsynth/message/4468 This is the part, and it is supposed to be a direct replacement (as I recall, I called the company and asked a tech): http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/756919-relay-dpdt-2a-5v-50-ohm-coil-g5v-2-dc5.html This only helped get rid of what I call "the crackle" noise. I should mention however, that my CZ also has a very high noise floor... it hisses. I know there are a number of posts on this forum about this, but I have not yet read up on it myself... need to get around to it someday. I don't really remember the posts exactly, but for a number of people (I think with hissing noise), the relay was not the problem, it was something else. The point is, if your problem is the "hiss", then I don't think this will help. but if it is the "crackle," then change the relay. As for where it is... I remember it being right up on top - easy to get to. The part looks like a (relatively) big, rectangular box I had some trouble figuring out how to open the case... I think I detail that all in my early posts as well... just search my user name. Now I need to get to my hiss problem... :) best - DT --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "fab8soul" <stein.berlin@...> wrote:

(I am not too bad at soldering) If it's the same as the relay in the CZ1000, then all it does is mute out the audio for a second or two so it doesn't make a horrible noise through your amp. You could bypass it if you remember to knock the input gain down before turning the CZ on ;-) -- Gordon JC Pearce MM0YEQ <gordonjcp@...>

THANKS a lot! For me it is definitely the crackle noise and low volume. I did see your posting about how to open the CZ... I think I can do it now! Good luck with solving your hissing problem, I think it is a great synth and I can't wait to play around with it :-)!!!
