Has anyone got any tips on transferring downloaded stuff from the net to the FZ? In particular which of those dumpers actually works - as I have tried to transfer stuff via MIDI with no success thanks to the peculiar way the handshaking works.
Or is there are way to get PCs to read the Casio formatted disks?

The only way I do it - is by using the Lotharek floppy emulator. That
works very well.

Yes. But you need to tweak the drive to rotate at 360rpm instead of
300rpm.

no pc cant read the disk ut you can use a special card to read the format

the floppy emulator software allows fzf files to be used as images

depends on what os you are using i have never had a problem with xp or win98 with the dumping programs

if you go to butchy net he has a good dumping program

the fz sharware collection should be 150+ disks as thats what i have unless not all are loaded

i also have the full eII library for the fz range as when i went from EII to fz i converted them all with sounddesigner 2 back in the late 80,s

KryoFlux you can read fz floppy disks with this software as it controls the floppy drive which can switch to the faster speed of the 5.25" drives
but i just save all mine as fzf files

Re: [CZsynth] Re: FZ shareware collection

2013-10-10 by Lee Borrell

Every time I try one of the dumpers (tried 2 yesterday) I just get time out messages - the FZ is set to MIDI remote (do not know if there is another mode as it is fixed at REMOTE) and any attempt to send from FZ or from PC results in nothing but time outs - the other midi functions are fine - dumps to disk fine - I just cannot get any PC connection to work. I presume it needs both IN and OUT connecting - which I have done - but I get zilch.

when casio was the first 16bit sampler and to provide 1.44mb drives every one else was still using 720k drives
until the akai did the s1000
the interface that casio used was the shugart but the old standard 5.25" drives spec so there drive was a special as it used the 360 speed drive
pc was always 300 as is most other drives
a lot of the older drives can be made to go to the 360 speed
but kroyflex make a raw image of the disk which has been interpreted by the hfc floppy emulator and works great

I just had the HFC emulator installed on my linn 9000 after going through my third floppy drive failure. It works great but I sure am not planning on replacing all my drives and re engineering all my gear but I see the fz drives have their own extenuating circumstances. Maybe it's time to investigate other options.

Peeps,

I have been trying the various FZ dumpers - and the only success I have had is FZdump95 running on Win95- this dumps from the FZ but will not load back again.
I have attached a couple of files generated from the "preset wave" function - I cannot tell if they are intact and work - so if anyone has time or the inclination- can someone try them in an FZ to see if they dumped properly?
I am unclear as to why this process is so problematical - if it dumps out to the PC then why not in reverse when both cables are in. The status is on (Remote)[is it ever anything else?] - the only other message I have had is 'executed ok' when the attached dumps worked.
I cannot imagine the FZ is flaky as everything else works fine - is there an actual dumper that works smoothly with modern OS?

all these work on my o.s. lee!!

its a timely process if you have a large dump

i found file_ex is good for voice dumps
and ftu works well for all others

 i use winxp as o.s.

caution!!!! today's 1/2 hr test
1: fzdump

-sends
-full dump to fz (slow) .fzf
                           -bank dump to fz (slow).fzb
-voice dump to fz as long as its been previousily
saved with fzdump (sometimes not but have found bug!)

               -recieves all voice bank full

2:fz_ftu- alll format

3: file_ex-all format

4: need to buy full version of awave studio

is this synth your centre of attention ,
if not please spend more time learning about the dump procedure

Unfortunately not - all my sounds are on disk - which is why I am trying to get a sampler to connect to a PC. The two I managed were the default sounds.Odds on the same system might work for other sounds- but I had to use WIN95 to even get that to work.
I don't seem to have much luck with PC connections to samplers. I opened up the S10 last night and found the elastic band had perished on the Qdisk (again...along with the PR100 one!) so I tried the SYSx dump - which worked to the PC but not back again.
Apart from the problems due to XP - I cannot figure out what is going wrong.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
