CZ1 Rubber Keyboard contact strips

CZ1 Rubber Keyboard contact strips

2013-11-06 by jcolling@btinternet.com

Hi,
I have a Casio CZ1 which has inconsistent velocity volume on certain keys and on closer inspection (opened it up!) I found that some of the rubber pads have been replaced with ones of the same depth and from another synth. By depth I am referring to the depth of the rubber dome.

On the CZ 1 the rubber strips come in a double block of 16 or so contacts which are much the same in shape and size to bubble wrap. The ones at the front of the keys are not as deep as the ones at the back which helps to give a better velocity range.

Does anyone have any or can tell me where I can find some of these rubber contact strips for my CZ1 ? I intend to restore it back to its former glory and this is the only problem left to sort out.

I contacted Casio and a few other websites but I have not been able to locate any of these

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Jonathan

I had to alter some in a CTK631 recently and obtained them from CASIO...I doubt they are the same as the CZ1,but without a pic I cannot tell. I suspect not due to the age of the CZ1.

Just had a look on Syntaur.com

Does anyone know if CZ101 rubber contacts are the same as CZ1 contacts ?

They look the same but then again they may be smaller due to the keys being
small keys on the CZ101 ?

Thanks in advance - Jonathan

I just looked at it and wondered, too. I don't know how they compare with the ones needed for the CZ-1. I would think that because the CZ-1 is velocity sensitive and has full-sized keys, they would be different. Doesn't the CZ-101 have smaller keys?

if you have the originals rubber pads i can restore for you you're right these are hard to find and have a shallower velo then the note
its a shame to suggest but might be time to make the cz1 a midi module!
or if you are technical swap out the whole keys and utilze a new one ..if you can be so electronically inclined
last chance maybe a cz5000 model has similar contacts ..or the fz1??????

That's true. Strips for velocity sensitive keys should have two rubber
contacts.

The CZ1 does have two strips. They look very similar to the CZ101, but doubled up and the 2nd line shallower \u201ccups\u201d than the first.

I think I will measure mine and then send the place an email to enquire

Thanks

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for the offer, but the original rubber pads are ok, its the replacements that are not functioning quite as they should which i think is down to them being the same depth.

Your idea of using as a midi module is best bet at present, but i set out to restore this CZ1 to its former glory... Maybe i can find a blown up CZ1 ? Lol !

Here they are!
I'm also looking for them: CZ-1 rubber switches keypad strips!

You have found a solution?

I also had to replace a CTK strip and got them from Casio.
Also not sure if they are same or different from Cz.
However I did spot this the other day on ebay:

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Casio-CZ101-HT700-MT400V-synthesizer-rubber-contact-strips-complete-set-of-4-/181853829294?nav=SEARCH

Do not know if same or different to cz1, but they are advertised as for cz101 so possibly they are.
Perhaps contact seller?

Re: [CZsynth] CZ1 Rubber Keyboard contact strips

Exactly, and CZ101 has small keys so I'd suppose there must be also different size of rubber strip.

Syntaur hasn't them.

The ebay ones are single strip and presumaby incorrect for velocity sensitivity, which the 101/ht/mt400 do not have.

I'd have some doubts concerning this, but anyway it's worth to ask.

After the short look into the Service manual, you have to ask:

Item Code Nr.	Part Pieces for 1 unit	Specification Rank

72 6903 7661	Rubber Switch E 4 M31276A-1 B
73 6903 7671	Rubber Switch F 1 M31277A-1 B

B rank = Stock Recommended

So maybe they still have them :-)

They have two contacts for one key. E stripe has switches for 12 keys,
F stripe for 13 keys (the highest octave).

There are also the Service Centers, but they don't sell parts:

The velocity is the big issue. The height of front carbon contact is diferent from the back.

You have found a solution?

   Hi,
I have a Casio CZ1 which has inconsistent velocity volume on certain keys and on closer inspection (opened it up!) I found that some of the rubber pads have been replaced with ones of the same depth and from another synth.

Good and bad news.

:: Bad
Casio replyed saying there is nothing to do. As it was 80's, there is no more replacement parts.

:: Good
I drawn the rubber switch!
I put the image in the same folder I put the photos (it is the first):
I also included the specification of rubber switches from others Casio Keyboards.

Next step is to try a CTK/WK rubber switch, as it don't appear to be so different from the CZ-1's.

Att,
