Velocity and aftertouch on the CZ-1

Velocity and aftertouch on the CZ-1

2002-05-24 by artistirossetti

I'm going to sell my CZ-3000 and "upgrade" to a CZ-1. I'm absolutely
thrilled with its sound and also its rugged construction.

I know the CZ-1 is built well enough to be used as a gig master
keyboard but I'd like to know about the velocity and aftertouch:

1. How is aftertouch - do you have to press it down like a madman or
is it responsive (I have experience with Korg DSS-1, and it's too
hard for me). Casio doesn't strike me as a "softie" - hopefully I am
wrong.

2. How's velocity? A sensible curve, or that all-too-familiar "full
or none"?

3. Is the keyboard mechanism as good as on the CZ-3000? You might be
surprised, but I love the feel of the keyboard.

4. Are velocity and aftertouch prone to failure? Any other common
problems?

Thanks in advance, and long live the CZ-series!
Saso.

Actually, it's fairly light. It doesn't take much force to use the
aftertouch.

It has a very nice curve. Again, it doesn't take much force.

I like the feel of the CZ-1 better than the CZ-3000. I had been playing
a CZ-3000 for seven years before I got a CZ-1, and I instantly liked the
feel of the CZ-1 better than the CZ-3000. The CZ-1 feels a little less
mushy.

I'm not aware of any common problems inherent to the CZ-1.

Wow, man, you're making me drool. Now I know I simply HAVE to get
one...

Same here even the one of my VZ-1 is lighter. I think only my Matrix-
6 needs a bit more pressure, but I haven't compared them directly...

There is an adjustment you can make for the sensitivity
of the CZ-1 aftertouch sensor. VR4 on the main board #MA1M,
located on the upper right of the board. Fully counter
clockwise for maximum sensitivity, and clockwise for
less sensitivity. Unless the sensor strip under the
keyboard is shot, this should dial in the amount of
aftertouch pressure you prefer.
