Re: [CZsynth] Casio CZ 101 soundbanks

2016-05-31 by Daniel Forró

My opinion based on experience is that it's not possible to reconstruct successfully the sound of synthesizer in sampler... It will be always different.

It is possible to sample short sounds - sound effects, or basic waveforms. But long evolving soundscapes, dynamic sounds, modulated sounds, sounds processed with audio processors - that's difficult if not impossible.

Even when we sample each key, create long samples, use velocity switching and crossfading, sampler own filters, envelopes, modulations, audio processing... sound will be changed.

Sampler uses only static frozen pictures of the sound in certain moment. Like black & white photo. Synthesizer produces living dynamic sound, like color film. And physical modeling in real time is like 3D film.

This doesn't mean that sampled synthesizer sounds are bad or unusable. Just different.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
