Hi !!!
I´m new at this group. Two weeks ago I bought an old CZ-1 synzhesizer and i have to say this
machine is great!!!! But i dont have much experience with PD-synzhesis, it would be great if someone could tell me how i can get those warm and square-like sounds.(for example the one from "lie to me" by Depeche Mode".
Thank you!!
Daniel

Don't know about Depeche Mode but the easiest way to get a square is to set
the DCW to a square wave ( single wave) and set the rate and level to 99 and
sustain it at that first end step. Try to detune line 1 with itself by a
small amount to thinkin it up a little. Walla!! You should be set.

Welcome Daniel.

As that is one of my favorite songs- and I used to own a CZ-1 (now just
a CZ-101) I'll have to try and help here.
Just listened to that lead sound- I'm not sure it is a CZ- but might be
approximated on the CZ as it is a simple Timbre.
Jon Furman's advise is a good starting point- although you may want to
try and add a waveform (a second wave) in addition to the square to get the
desired sound.- just try a different wave (on the same DCO) and
listen..change the wave and repeat ....then when you have the best Wave
Combination- Try lowering the DCW(Waveshaper/Filter) from 99 to say, 70 or
60..your ears will have to be your guide.

Hi!
My name is Jaish Chada and I am new to the list. The type of music I create
varies from mellowed out synth based New Age to Heavy synth based (with
guitar samples) Industrial music. Some of my many influences are: Yello,
Frontline Assembly, KMFDM, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Pink Floyd and
BiGod20. I have also been impressed with Vince Clarks use of various Casio
synths and I know I can still find a use for one, in my music.

Not new to the Casio Synth series, I am the proud owner of a VL-tone ;-)
amongst other noise makers and electronic instruments.

So, I don't actually have a CZ series synth, yet but I am looking to get a
CZ-1. I almost bought one the other day but the seller decided to give it to
his nephew. Lucky nephew! So, I am here to learn about the synth and
hopefully find someone who's willing to part with their CZ-1.

Thanks for reading and I will talk to you, soon.

Hi Maxim.
Yes. I am a member of the K5000 list, Waldorf User Forum and I used to be a
part of the Nord Modular user forum until I sold my Modular :-(
I regret it, now and want to get one, again...but that's AFTER I get a

Don't get another Nord Modular until you
give an honest try to a well spec'd Kurzweil...
I got a K2000R two weeks ago, upgraded it
with more sample memory and am stunned by
this synths modular capabilities....
Plus you get a lot of polyphony and 8 stereo
pairs outputs... that's just wild....

Hi Summa!
Yes, I won! It was a tough competition. I am surprised no one else entered.
I am enjoying driving the Ferrari. I don't know how Dr. Muller could have
afforded such a Prize...I'll trade a Ferarri for a CZ-1...Before everyone
rushes off to join the Waldorf Forum, I am joking! I didn't win a
Ferarri...And you, Summa, won the second prize! Congratulations!

I've always heard that the K2000 had pretty good true synthesis capabilities
in addition too sampling (which is what most people do with it I think) so
this is true then?

RE: [CZsynth] RE: New Member

2002-10-09 by Chada, Jaish

Maxim...this is weird.
It's like you're a mind reader or something! I went to my local keyboard
store yesterday as I had to take in one keyboard for repair. So, after that
I went to the sales section. There was a guy negotiating a sale for a Micro
Modular. The price seemed good and I thought... "Hmm...maybe they'll give an
even BETTER deal if I joined in and bought one, too." So, I showed my
interest, but they realised they made a mistake on the price and would only
give the original customer the good price because he came in especially
knowing the original price they offered. So I didn't get one, and I went
further into the store and saw a Kurzweil K2600xs. There was a sales guy
showing all the possible filter routings and I was shocked! I thought it was
just another workstation. It was also black despite the fact all the
pictures I have seen are purple.

But you gotta love the Nord Modular's computer editor! It's just great to
drag those virtual patch cables around. I am just afraid I'll get frustrated
setting up routing on a small screen. Unless it's interface is that good? I
have to go back there and take another look as I didn't have much time,
yesterday.

I am a little bit.

It's not just the filter routings. It's also plenty of freely routable
envelopes and LFO's, and the "FUN" modules (meaning function). You
can use complex algorithms (albeit chose from a preset list of about
30) which affect the "control voltage" these module produce, based
on the two inputs. Anything from Boolean fuctions to sin(x) to
a^b... Also, "waveshapers" in place of filters... These sound downright
evil. You'd have to have a wall of modular before you get close to
these possibilities.

> But you gotta love the Nord Modular's computer editor! It's just great to

(a) routing on screen isn't bad at all

(b) get a copy of SoundDiver. You'll find out that it's easier to program
the Kurzweil than it is the Nord Modular, because you don't have to mess
with the patch cables. Clicking on a module input produces a (large)
menu of available routings, and you just pick one. Easy.

It's more true than you can imagine. It's basically a complex modular
where the oscillators are sample based. Which is not a bad idea since
it gives you a limitless variety of oscillators. The modulations available
are ming boggling.

It' also true that Kurzweil comes packed with excellent samples already,
so it sounds great without any programming whatsoever. I guess many
people never touch its programming side partly because of that....

Hey,

I write electonica/techno music. I just got a CZ1000 and use hooked up to the computer so I can use the midi keyboard and also for the bass sounds on the synth. I just cant seem to get some plush pads or strings with it, but I havent had it long.
