Re: [Evolver] Evolver trance sounds?

2006-03-28 by James Elliott

So we are talking pad or soft rythm line vs acid line3 & bass. Well then why yes! It can do that, of course. I'll try to construct a pad and maybe an arp and post a demo somewhere this weekend. So far, I'd say the evolver is pretty much capable of just about everything since it uses subtractive synthesis, additive synthesis, and wavetable synthesis.

In the meantime, you have to ask yourself, how much time are you willing to program a particular sound? Will you start from scratch or work off of an existing patch?

I prefer to wipe all presets off of my synth and start from scratch. How do you program?

Think 'smooth' 'thick' and or 'lush'.... perhaps 'sweet' in a way.
Think of a long evolving pad, or (especially) a sound that could play
a melodic arpeggio for a couple of minutes without sounding harsh or
boring. Also trance sounds must usually play well alongside a couple
of other synth sounds in the mix.

In comparison, synth sounds in electro are often more 'harsh' 'punchy'
'bassy' 'riffy' 'squelchy' or used as 'stabs'.

Not a trance expert,
Graeme
