My guess is that the best source of spares is DSI itself (or at least it would know the best source). That is bugsome about the psu though. I haven't had any external transformers die on me. My yamaha transformer from my dx100 is still chugging away after 20 years . . .

My power supply croaked suddenly yesterday. It was working fine and
then I unplugged it to move to another room. Dead when I plugged it
back in.

The Evolver still works fine (thank goodness) but my substitute power
brick is nearly as big as the Evolver itself and hesavier.

A couple of questions:

1. Any one else have a PSU fail? My Evolver was bought last October, #
173 if I recall.

2. I suspect DSI has a policy on replacing these but was wondering if
any one had run down an alternate source. I'm thinking now that having
a spare would be an excellent idea.

Thanks,

drK

its just a standard 13v psu - you can get one from any electronics store, as far as I can tell a standard 12v works just as well - but someone may correct me on the wisdom of that!

My PSU died on me as well a while back. Email Dave, he'll take care
of it for you.

In fact this is how I am still able to use it, by plugging in a Yamaha
12VDC supply. But for the amount of current the Evolver is spec'd to
need you have to get a pretty hefty wall-wart (i.e. the Yamaha) or one
of the fancy switching power supplies like the original. Unfortunately
finding the latter is a bit harder as they are usually custom-made
items for each manufacturer.

Yes this is a first for me too after to many years and too many
wall-warts to admit to. In fact I was certain that the Evolver had
failed and was pulling-down the voltage output so much that the power
LED (on the PSU) was not lit because how could it be a dead wall-wart?
But alas it was.

I'll email Dave and see what he suggests.

Not that anyone who has dealt with DSI would be surprised (but maybe
good to add to the "public record" for newbies thinking about getting
an Evolver), Dave himself answered my email about the PSU within a few
hours of my sending (hey he's three hours behind and was still asleep I
would imagine). He is shipping a replacement. Try getting that type of
service from certain unnamed large Japanese manufacturers!

Viva DSI!
