i just recieved my evolver wednesday...i feel i should
send dave flowers...i havent been this excited about a
piece of gear in quite some time...i'm very happy with
the sound quality and diversity if the module. i
thought i would hate the compact box but its really
cool. the thing is rock solid though.....
one thing that bothers me are the "clicking" knobs,
they're great for selecting patches etc, but it makes
filter sweeps AWFUL. may i suggest the knobs that have
a pull feature...if its down it clicks but smooth when
pulled out. i know it seems petty, but i think it
would make it much better.

Actually, dave has implemented a smoothing algorithm for the filter
cutoff and some other functions, the filter shouldn't really step, it
just feels like it does because the knobs don't move smoothly, they
jump. I think most rotary encoders work like this. I like the
encoders myself, they make it easy to just tweak one step (although
the anti-jitter algo for the encoders needs improvement, they tend
to 'jump' for no reason). They also don't just move if they are
bumped, and that's cool.

I'm evolver-less at the moment, does anybody know if the filter steps
from the modwheel, or expression, etc.?

You know, I don't think it would be hard to find encoders that do
what you want, but be prepared to pay, and be prepared to void your
warranty. At any rate if this knob-pull feature you suggest were
implemented you'd have to buy a new evolver to get it.

---i was wrong...it actually seems not to jump like i
originally thought, though it is a little tough when
doing subtle sweep, having the clicking motion.
i prefer the way it us for everything else.
my bad....now i'm off to play more!!!

The evolver has routable destinations for:

Foot Controller
Breath Controller
Pressure
Mod Wheel
Velocity
Env fol (think this has to do with the audio in)
In Peak Amnt (also for audio in)

Hehe, I think you misunderstood me. I mean, does the filter step
(quantize, stepping noise) when being modulated from a manual source,
like foot controller or mod wheel. The answer is that it only steps
slightly when a manual source like a mod wheel is adjusted very
slowly. It's a lot better than most synths, that's for sure.
