All the knobs send out MIDI data, so you can map out to your soft synths, but unless your hardware matches your MEK, it won't be that great to tweak other hardware with fixed MIDI CC. Other evolvers on your chain will react to the knob twists, after touch, etc. Chaining is a simple concept really, you just send midi data to a sound module with a similar midi mapping. Of course each evolver on your chain need it's own audio channel.
Hmm, interesting though, you're choosing a MEK as your main synth and controller. That's stretching it; possible with lots of limitations. If you're in front of computer anyway, get a Evolver desktop and one of those great Notation Controllers. Best of both worlds at your finger tips. Cheaper solution too.
In my opinion, an electronic musician needs to spend good money a Controller and Monitors/Speakers. Everything else is just a matter of your mood. But the need
for good control and good output is constant.
Also, I own a PEK myself. If you are certain you want extra voices in the future, absolutely save-up and get the PEK, it's much cleaner and more flexible to have all your voices in one unit.
Yea know, most likely we all will just pay around with the evolver sounds for a while, learn it, love it and then find another great synth later on. No reason for all this capacity planning and what-not. These things come and go, occasionally somebody finds a GENETIC bound with an instrument, but that rarely happens.
My 2 cents

I'm in the same boat here - want to purchase a MEK and use my desktop
evolver for duphonic action. My questions - do I need to update my OS
on the desktop Evolver? Will the knobs on the MEK also affect the
same parameters on the desktop (i.e. filter cutoff on MEK also adjusts
desktop evolvers filter cutoff correspondingly)?
Thanks!!!
