[SoundTower] Evolver Sound Editor for Mac upgrade (soon)

2007-02-22 by soundtower_helpdesk

Hi,

Just a quick note to all to let you know that SoundTower is working on
the upgrade for the Mac version of the editor now. We are hoping for a
honest list of suggestions and comments relating to functionality and
GUI development that would make your use of the product more
pleasurable/functional.

Post them here on this board or if you want off board send me a note
at either:

soundtower_helpdesk [at] yahoo [dot] com or
derek [at] soundtower [dot] com

Thanks in advance. I look forward to any and all comments.

A further note: the PC Evolver help file will be available by Sunday
evening/Monday morning. I believe we have the Mac help file bundled in
the setup exe currently to get new user up and running. Thanks for
your patience on this.

Thanks
Derek

Hi hodsonmonster,
Programming tells me mostly user interface. You won't have to switch between windows as much to edit. Knobs to be used instead of sliders at times, a little smoother/intuitive GUI.
Anything that you might like to see regarding GUI from Mac user perspective?
thanks
Derek

Hi Derek,

I'm new to this group, so hopefully this post will show up. Anyway, great news on the
update. Here are some ideas I have:

1. It would be nice if you could have multiple windows open at once, especially for those
of us with multiple screens. You can kind of do this now, but it's not quite there yet. It
would be nice if you could keep your program and combo edit windows open, while also
having your combo and program patch lists open as well, so you could jump around much
easier as far as editing goes. If you want to get really crazy, maybe even something like
Screen Sets in Logic, where for a certain wavetable patch, the wave editor would be open
as well as the program editor, etc. All of this could be accessed with a few keystrokes.

2. I'm not sure how realistic this would be, but it would be REALLY nice for those of us
who only have a PEK if, when using an external keyboard controller, you moved an
assigned knob/fader, the appropriate knob/fader on the editor display would move as
well. This would make programming with a controller soooo much easier and with a lot
less guess work.

To take this one a step further, one of the things I love about Kontakt is the fact that when
you modulate something, you can see how the modulation is effecting that parameter
because the value indicator move accordingly. Why not have the parameters in the
interface do the same?

3. If you have the source/destination assignment windows open for a particular
modulator, you cannot have any other source/destination window open. It would be very
nice if you could. Simply name them "LFO Source 1," "Modulation Destination 3," etc.
Maybe even have each LFO/Modulation section be a different color and the windows would
correspond, colorwise.

4. I'm coming up with more as I think about this, but I'll save those for another time
perhaps, and this will be the last one. How about a page for modulations where you can
simply click and drag arrows to and from sources and destination. So if you wanted to
modulate the filter with 4 LFOs and a Modulator, you would just click and drag an arrow
from each of the 5 straight to the filter. Then you could increase the amplitude of the
modulation in some other window. Maybe that could even change the color of the "cable"
between the source and destination(s) to indicate a "hotter" signal.

I hope I didn't go way overboard here, but you asked for! Hope to see some of these in
the next episode. Thanks for doing this. -Andy

Re: [Evolver] [SoundTower] Evolver Sound Editor for Mac upgrade (soon)

Hi mat,

Sorry for the delay in responding. Had my yearly bought of the flu
and was off line.

Short answer: qualified yes. The upgrade/update to the Mac is due
becuase of Mac OS changes. The PC version (last version in 2005 I
believe) will have update soon after.

Because of the OS differences it will not be ported as such but it
will be the same product as far as we can make it in terms of
functionality.

Hope that helps. Please suggest away regarding either versions. You
guys use the product every day so your input is valued highly.

cheers,
Derek

Andy,
Greatly appreciated. Your comments are well thought through; obviously a heavy 'user'! I've sent them on to programming and will report back to board as I hear back.
cheers
