Mono Synth Stacking

Mono Synth Stacking

2009-03-19 by mrandyman73

Hi all,
I am curious to find out people's experiences with stacking the evolver. I currently have my MEK stacked with a Novation Super Bass Station and an Alesis NanoBass. I find the Novation's arpeggiator rocks with the evolver's sequencers and the Alesis spares me having to always add bass to the evo and SBS (It also doubles as a fake bass).
I have also stacked it with an Access Virus B and the sound is almost too good to be true. The only drawback is that the Virus is a bit cramped on the MEKs keyboard (especially when splitting the registers).
Oh, and I've gotten some crazy sounds by pairing it up with a Red Sound Dark Star, but the Dark Star gets a little buzzy and underwhelming after a while.

I am wondering if anybody has found a 'perfect compliment' (or maybe antithesis) to the MEK. And why?

I do the opposite: pair an Access Virus Indigo with a DEK. One of them has a reputation for being "too dark" and the other has a reputation for being "too harsh". Played together, it sounds like you got your peanut butter in my chocolate.

If I could do it all over again, I probably would have gone MEK and TI desktop. But I was four or five years too early and a couple of thousand dollars short.

Hmm. I've been using one OR the other. I have an MEK and EVO and Virus
TI Desktop. I must hear how using an Evolver AND a TI sound together.

Complicated.

And huge if you do it right.

I generally have them playing independant, not truly stacked. I like to use the DEVO to control bpms on both and let the sequencer and arps mingle and meet.

I also tend to use the evolver for leads. It's not implcitly better at it, it's just kind of a mental block thing of mine. I'll lay down a looped bit of evolver with the VCA wide open using a looping pedal, layer some Virus over it then back to the evolver for some weeedly-weeedly stuff.

It's remarkably satisfying
