Hi,

I'm a new DTX user, and I'm having problems downloading any of the kits
(from DTXpression) that are bigger than 972 bytes, I get an Error-Checksum
when I try to down load them from my PC to the DTX, but all the kit files
that are 972 bytes load OK. Anyone know what I'm screwing up that this is
happening?

Thanks very much for all of the previous messages, they have helped me a lot.

Best Regards
Michael G.

I had the same problem but I don't know its meaning. I change of software
and now it works. I use Dumpster(I tried Dtxchange and an alesis software
before).
Maybe some files may not work, I don't why but if you save and reload all
your files with Dumpster there will be no error.(I don't have errors yet).

Lee,

Welcome back to the world of drumming. I'm not in London, but I'm on
the closer US coast. That has to count for something. Anyway, until
one of your neighbors replies to your post, these two stores have
been mentioned on this site as good for e-drums in connection with
English buyers; obviously, at least one of them is not within
hailing distance of you: www.academyofsound.net; www.thomann.de.

As for the chokeable cymbal, if you don't go with the Yamaha 65S,
the US has at least a couple of popular, relatively inexpensive
options, though I don't know about their local availability in
English or European shops. Pintech makes a wonderful round 14" gum
rubber cymbal called the Zenbal, which comes in chokeable and
unchokeable versions. Visu-lite manufactures an extensive line of
round ride and crash acrylic cymbals of various sizes and colors(10"
to 18"). They have acquired a few strong advocates within this group
(of which I am one).

The Roland stereo models start with the 12" CY-6. It's an okay
cymbal, if a tad expensive for what it is. I should mention that
some people don't love the way Rolands interact with Yamaha
equipment. They certainly work, but I personally find their high
prices and general fussiness not to rate an unconditional
recommendation. Just to be comprehensive, another US company that
makes well-regarded cymbals, as well as other triggers, is Hart
Dynamics. Their round bronze ECII 16" ride cymbal appears not to
work at its best with Yamaha modules, but I've never heard any
complaints about their metallic crashes. They have a new line of
round gum rubber cymbals that I have yet to hear or try.

You might do well to check the informative websites for Pintech,
Visu-lite, and Hart. These companies are small; so you can usually
get personal, responsible answers from them if you have questions
about how their products work your electronics, what it would cost
to ship to London, or even whether they have European dealers.

Ed,

Thanks for your ideas on new cymbals i have read alot about the
companys you have mentioned here on the forum , My only problem at
present is finding a distributor in the UK, You guys in the US do
seem to have a greater choice.
Again thanks for your ideas and i look forward to more replys and
speaking to you soon.

Hi Lee,

FYI, I believe that Drumbalaya (who carries many of
the brands mentioned on the forum) does ship to the
UK. Of course, I also understand that the shipping
costs may be a little expensive, but I just thought I
would throw it out there...

Hey Lee,

Just a thought. Have you tried Koby Drums? I think it's based in
Liverpool. The company has almost no presence in the states, but I
recall seeing good reviews. If, by any chance, you do know anything
about their products, or find out some things, let us know.

Hart, alas, have no UK dealers... I mailed them to ask. However,
they will ship to the UK. Just mail them for a quote.

Thomann.de seem to have the Yamaha TP65 and PCY65 (but not the S,
which is the chokeable one). They have English speakers on staff, so
might be worth a call. I hope I may be talking to them soon, if I
can get my finance application through the domestic steering
committee... B-)

Lee,

I recommend Footes in Golden Square ( http://www.footesmusic.com.)
It is where I bought mine from and they are very helpful in there.
They keep a variety of electronic parts in stock and will order on
your behalf if they haven't got it in stock.

Cheer's Guy's,

thanks for all your advice.
Ed i contacted Koby drums and i recieved an email today from them.
The Mesh head Snare and toms are £100 for single trigger and £120 for
dual trigger and the Cymbals are £50 to £70 pounds.
I have included the email sent .

Hi Lee,
Our cymbals will work with the DTXPress V2.0, but, they are only
single
trigger cymbals - not dual type like Yamaha.

The MESH-Head pads will also work with the DTXPress V2.0 as will the
Koby
DUAL Snare MESH-Head (head & rim) The MESH-Head snare comes with
cable to
either plug into inputs 9/10 of DTXPress (stereo - stereo), or plug
into the
Snare input and 9/10 (stereo - 2 x mono), but, this will only give
one voice
from input 9/10!

Hope this helps. If you need it to be clarified further - give me a
call on
:- 0151 709 8141 or Mob: 07 97 97 835 99

Please e-mail your address details and i will send literature &
prices for
the above request.

Regards, Colin Schofield, (Koby Drums).

I hope this is of Knowledge Ed .

Regards Lee.

Lee,

Thanks for the info about Koby Drums. Prices seem to be about right
for the type of product offered. Too bad about the cymbals not being
stereo. They might have been a convenient solution. But I notice
that someone on the board has been able recommend a store. Good luck
on the quest.

Re: New User

2003-03-13 by leehunwick

Hi Guys,

I have spoken to Koby again and i was thinking about using one of his
cymbals for the hi hat .
I know its not stereo but should give a more realistic feel ,I'm
assuming that the existing pad being mono that the new cymbal should
bolt straight on in its place is this correct.
I have also seen his mesh head pads and they are lovely.
I want to upgrade the snare to a mesh head and koby say that the
snare uses i input for the skin and you split 9/10 and run the rim
through either input. ? Is this correct.
If so it looks like i will be looking for a midi device to expand
more trigger inputs and ive only had the kit 2 weeks.

Regards as always Lee.

Hi Lee,

You can use anything that appeals to you as a hi hat (if you were in
the US, I'd suggest a close look at the Visu-lite hh cymbals and
controller, which mount on a traditional hh stand and have just
become available in a Yamaha-compatible version). You'll just have
to get a mount for your new cymbal. On Koby's dual-zone mesh-head
snare, the usual method, as Koby recommends, is to connect the skin
to input 2 and the rim to either 9 or 10, leaving the other mono
input open for another pad. Theoretically, you could connect the
skin to 9 and the rim to 10 (or use any other two inputs for that
matter, if you didn't mind subverting their "stereo" capabilities),
but splitting to 2 and 10 allows you to retain your snare if you
should use one of the preset kits. Please post your impressions of
your Koby triggers; we've never had any word about them.

Ed
