I'm using my DTII as triggers for my sample cd's and my roland 5080 but sometimes when I hit the kick drum, it wont sound on maybe one out of 10 hits unless I hit it extra hard. Any ideas on if it might be a velocity problem or not? Thanks! dblock

If you have to use a lot of brute force to get anything out of the trigger, you might check your gain and minimum velocity settings; a low value for the former and a high one for the latter could impede triggering. A high self-rejection setting could also be responsible, and if your kick has a sensitivity knob, too high or too low a setting could be interfering with response. Also, get into the trigger mode on the display for the kick and check the numerical reading for your hits. If they're too low for your settings, no matter how you program, the trouble may be inside the pad. Open it up and make sure that the foam hasn't worn away enough to reduce contact or a wire isn't loose. Sometimes resoldering can help, even if no crack is visible to the naked eye. Ed

Hi, Ed knows FAR more than I, but I had a similar problem...Like you, some of my kick hit's did not sound only about a year+ after I got my kit. It turned out that after a LOT of fooling around with settings, I simply had a bad solder-joint on the little circuit board within the kick tower. Like Ed said, it's hard to see a bad solder joint sometimes. I resoldered the connection and it's been fine ever since for about 2 or 3 years now. The solder at the factory was on the light side for a unit that takes such a beating. I made sure I had 'plenty' of solder so it would not likely happen again...Use common sence though. I've read other's here having a solder-joint issue for their kick towers. But by all means, try your settings first:) easier yet, maybe if you have a 2nd kick tower around try using that!
