Amplication Options for Home Practice

Amplication Options for Home Practice

2006-02-15 by alexliu1973

I have been using headphone since I got the DTX...and have reached a
stage that I wish to set up some amplication for it. I tried my guitar
amp but the results were very bad with no bass at all.

May I share some of your valuable experiences please? I intend to do
this on budget as the set up will not go anywhere further than my own
practice room at home.

Many thanks!!!

Alex

Keyboard amp is the only way to go. For in home playing I bought a Peavey KB2. Awesome sound out of this thing.

I opted for an inexpensive Samson PA cabinet (10" Speaker & horn)
powered by my guitar amp until I find a cheap 4 channel powered PA or
monitor amp.
Eventually I'd like to wind up with powered PA cabinets or stage
monitors and do away with an external amp altogether, but this is
beyond any budget I can handle right now.

The best way I have found...
I have my DTXiii headphone jack plugged into my computers line in
jack, then plug your line out jack on your computer to your house
stereo. By doing it this way, not only will you get a quality sound
you will also be able to record it with your recording software.
Hope this helps.

Hey Keith, how do you like the Z-2300? How does it compare to say the Roland
and Yamaha monitor systems (if you have tried those)? How many watts does
the 2300 produce? I was looking into the Z-5300e (210 Watts). Right now I am
using clone (COMPUSA) speakers connected to my PC and the volume just is not
there.

It is 120W RMS in the sub woofer and 40W each satellite speaker. I
have never tried the Roland or Yamaha ones so I cannot compare. I
think the Z-5300 is similar - just the 5 speaker surround version.

It either lacks a little mid range or has a little too much bass
(although the sub-woofer is adjustable) it is difficult to be sure
which. The bass is good unless you like it really loud in which case
it will distort. For home practice it seems plenty loud enough and is
economical.

Keith.
