Two triggers into 9/10 instead of dual cymbal pad ?

Two triggers into 9/10 instead of dual cymbal pad ?

2006-07-17 by peepeec2000

I haven't seen this on the message board but perhaps it has been
addressed in the past.

I am attempting to connect one TP65 and one PCY65 to the extra input
jack ( 9/10 ) which is intended for a PCY65S.

Hooking them up through a standard dual mono to stereo connector
results in double triggring due to the signal routing throught the
opposite pad and triggering both inputs. I previously had two home
made pads hooked up using a cable with diodes inline on the common
line to keep the signals separated. I opted for the two yamaha pads
mostly for looks, but for some functionality as well. The problem I am
having is in trying to pick the correct diode for the cable, I can't
seem to make it work with the stock pads.

So, my question is: Is there a cable available to hook up this
configuration? If yes can anyone direct me to a place to purchase etc?

Thanks, Peter

I have recently done this by using a standard stereo 1/4" jack -> two
mono 1/4" jacks. This is the same cable as you would use to separate
a stereo output to two mono inputs (such as to get to / from a mixer
board or something). I have used this cable with a TP65 and a custom
splash cymbal which I made, with no crosstalk or anything. I don't
know why you are getting double triggering, perhaps the cable is not
really a stereo -> 2x mono? I have no need for diodes or anything.

Granted, both of these pads are single zone, but IIRC you cannot use
anything other than this for ports 9 and 10 (or if you try to use
them, they will function only as single zone pads).

If I am incorrect, please somebody, correct me; as I said, it works
fine for me.

Wyatt

The 9/10 input is not intended for a PCY65S. It is intended for using
two mono pads and so is unlike the other inputs which are meant for
dual zone pads. It expects two piezo signals rather than one piezo
signal and a rim switch.

The only way I know of to connect two pads to 9/10 is with a dual mono
to stereo splitter such as:

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/?page=shop/flypage&product_id=5821

This will put the piezo signal of one pad to the stereo jack tip and
the piezo of the other pad to the stereo jack ring. If the pads are
dual zone the other zone will be ignored.

Keith.

Wyatt,

Thanks for the quick response, I put together a standard 2 mono to 1
stereo adapter last night and guess what, no crosstalk, no double
triggering etc. Unlike my homemade jobies, the commercial pad seems
to be self isolating. Thanks again.
