Another weak signal question

Another weak signal question

2007-01-10 by cbarnhart44

I built a couple of the DTXpanders and they work great...Thanks Keith!

I have Tom1 split and added a 4th Tom - that circuit works great.

However I have TOM3 split with an extra cybal pad and I only get about
1/2 volume from the cymbal (it's on the rim switch) even when voice
volume is set at 127. Is this a "trigger type" issue or something else
going on.

Chris,

Unfortunately, the Yamaha DTXpress module is not as sensitive to rim
hits as main pad hits. I have never quite worked out why they have
made it that way. On my early, rather complex DTXpander I added some
gain to the rim pad to compensate.

Two suggestions: 1) swap the tom & cymbal over and see if that helps.
You can then also bypass the series diode on the cymbal input to
increase the cymbal level a little which may also help. 2) check to
see if you have an adjustemnt pot on the cymbal itself - mine do - try
adjusting it.

I am assuming you have played around with the Gain and MVEL in the
trigger menu? What percentage are you getting on the trigger edit
menu from the two pads?

Keith.

Keith,

Thanks,

I'll try your suggestions and and see what happens. I hadn't thought
to try the gain or MVEL - will try that first.

Just following up, turns out it was the pot on the cymbal....never
noticed it had one... it was set at about "3"

Chris,

I am glad it is sorted. Most people don't know the pads have an
adjuster because you don't normally need it.

Keith.
