DTXpress pad size

DTXpress pad size

2002-04-10 by fwade4

Thanks for the advice from my last email. I have one other question
(for now). Are the drum pads on the DTXpress six inch or eight inch?
If they are six inch, is it difficult for a beginner to hit them
accurately? Should I get something that has eight inch pads instead.
Thanks again.

Hi Frank,

They're 8 inches, counting rims, and not a bad target in my
estimation, though someday you may find 10 or 14 inches tempting for
some applications.

Frank,

If this post appears twice, I apologize. The pads are 8 inches,
counting rims, and IMHO a pretty good target, though you may prefer
10 or 14 inches for certain applications later in the game.

Are you talking about the TP60 pads? They are 8 inches? I was told on
the phone by a sales guy that they were six inches. Is it possible that
I am looking old versions on ebay and you have an updated version of the
pads (TP80). Thanks

No,the TP60s are just a hair under 8 inches, edge to edge, and the
TP80S, which you get as a snare in the latest DTXPRESS kit, is just
a hair over, probably to accommodate the rim switch. The TP60
designation is confusing; some people think that it indicates 6
inches. It's just the least expensive Yamaha rubber pad. The current
DTXPRESS has TP60 pads for the high hat and three toms. As far as I
can tell, their piezos are just as responsive as the TP80S's. A
beginner won't be disappointed. I've been hitting drums for 38
years; I'm impressed with them, especially for the price.

Re: DTXpress pad size

The 4 TP60s on the current DTXPRESS (high hat and three toms)are
just a hair under 8 inches, edge to edge. The TP80S stereo pad,
which now comes standard as a snare, is a hair over, probably to
accommodate the rim switch. The TP60 designation is confusing. It
doesn't indicate 6 inches, only that it is Yamaha's least expensive
pad. I doubt that the DTXPRESS will disappoint many beginners. You
shouldn't have much trouble drawing a bead on the pads, and you'll
make pretty good sounds--in most regards good enough to satisfy even
an old hand. I've been hitting drums for 38 years, and I'm
impressed, especially for the price.

I recommended Midwest Percussion as a place to buy the whole kit in
a previous post. I should add that they can't advertise their price
outright because it's too low. Follow their instructions at the
site; you won't be disappointed.

I am not sure what the sales guy was talking about but the TP60 and TP80 are both 8 inch pads. The TP60 pad came out with the DTXpress where the TP80 pads came out with the DTX kit. I don't see the TP80 pads for sell much anymore because they are basically the exact same thing as the TP60's (which are single zone pads). The TP80S is a 8' dual zone pad that comes as the snare on the new DTXpress kits.

individual pads, and you won't dislike what you hear. I've been

especially for the price.

On a previous post today, I recommended Midwest Percussion as a site
to buy the kit. I should add that their price is too low to print.
Follow their instructions about finding out their discount, and most
likely you won't be disappointed.
