New to e-drums, please help!!!

2002-05-15 by f_almada

hi all!

I just ordered my dtxpress set, and I was wondering, how do you guys
connect 2 bass drums when the module has only one input for it?
is it posibble to have double bass drum on this kit? if so, haw and
what do I need?

thx a lot for your help!

Yes, you can connect 2 kicks.

You need mono cables from both kicks, plugged into a Y-splitter/joiner which
outputs a single stereo signal. Plug this into input 1 (kick) and you should be
fine to go.

will this work if the input (kick) is a mono input???

thx

a 'splitter, but they have to go to a MONO plug, not a stereo plug as
stated in a previous post. You can only get one sound, and both pads
will trigger that same sound. You need to use two separate inputs to
get two different sounds, or the 9/10 input. If using the 9/10, the
splitter needs to have a STEREO plug.

Scott, unless I misunderstand your post, I disagree.

If you plug a stereo pad into input 1 (kick) using a stereo cable, input 1 is
capable of triggering 2 seperate sounds - one for PAD 1 and the other set to
RIM 1. I currently use this for an extra cymbal on the pad and a cowbell on the
rim of a TP80S.

So if you plug 2 mono cables from 2 kick pedals into a "splitter" with a stereo
output, this stereo output will then be plugged into input 1 (which is stereo)
and would be considered the same as a stereo pad, such as a TP80S. You then set
up RIM 1 and PAD 1 to the same kick voice and you have a double kick.

Hi Almada,

Yes you can connect two pedals, and there are a few
ways to accomplish it.
Option one is to use a cable that combines two mono
signals into one mono plug, commonly called a Y cable,
or a splitter. With this option you can connect both
pedals to the same trigger input on the DTXpress.
This works best when both triggers have the same
output level, or can be adjusted to be similar. One
thing to be aware of, with this method both pedals
will sound exactly the same.
The second option is to connect each pedal to its own
input. Since most pedals are mono signals, the best
way to connect these to a DTXpress is to use inputs
9/10, which are the only mono inputs available on the
DTXpress. Here again you will need to use an adapter
cable, and it may be called a Y cable or splitter
again, but this time you need to combine the two mono
signals (one from each pedal) into a stereo plug, so
that one pedals signal is on the right channel and the
other is on the left channel. When this stereo signal
is plugged into input 9/10, the signal on one channel
will be input 9 and the other will be input 10. This
also gives you the ability to vary the sounds of the
two pedals, for example fading one pedal to the left
and one to the right.
Inputs 1 - 8 on the DTXpress are stereo inputs, and
the only way to get two sounds from them is to use a
pad (like the TP80S or PCY80S) which has stereo
triggers.
For more of an explaination on stereo triggers versus
dual triggers, look at post number 1597 in this group.
 I hope this helps. Walt

Stereo is this context refers to a pad with a pad piezo trigger and a
rim switch trigger. On inputs 1-8 (stereo), You CANNOT use a dual pad
(one with two piezo triggers) or two mono pads, each with a piezo
trigger. A piezo trigger won't work on the rim function.
There is a post that thoroughly illuminates this fundamental
difference. Two pads is NOT the same as one stereo pad. Just won't
work. I'll try to find the post, and post it.
