Fixing to buy DTXpressII - never had electronic kit before and was wondering if playing with wood tip sticks is OK on this kit or would nylon tipped sticks be best for less wear and tear on the pads? What kinda sticks do you use??? Thanks! - Mike __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! News - Today's headlines http://news.yahoo.com

Hi Mike, My view is that either should be OK - although I tend to use lighter sticks (5As) instead of heavier ones...Walt --- Mike Warren Autographs <mikewarrenautographs@...> wrote: > Fixing to buy DTXpressII - never had electronic kit > before and was wondering if playing with wood tip > sticks is OK on this kit or would nylon tipped > sticks > be best for less wear and tear on the pads? I agree with walt. I've used both. Both seem to work equally well. The wood tips last much longer on rubber pads than brass cymbals! And I too use a lighter stick. It seems to be easier to get the full dynamic range from the system. This can be especially helpful if you are a hard hitter anyway. Since you brought it up, I have been wondering what stick choices other acoustic-to-electronic transplants have made. I have just got back into drumming after a 15 year hiatus, and my only kit now is a DTXpress. My stick preference was always Pro Mark 5B Oak wood tips, but found them too heavy on the rubber pads. I've since switched to Pro Mark 747 Hickory wood tips. It took some getting used to, but picking up the 5B's seems really odd now. The 747's are considerably narrower, and slightly longer than the 5B's. Their smaller size, plus hickory versus oak makes them much lighter. Jim Tonak ratzo@tampabay.rr.com

Hello All, I am new to this group and I have several questions about Yamaha's DTX line of drums. First of all, how do they sound? Does anybody gig regularly with them? I was looking at the DTXpress and DTXtreme -- right now I am leaning towards the DTXtreme. Has anyone had issues adding pads to the DTXpress? Also, does the number of voices layered make any noticeable difference in the sound between the sets? Thanks in advance- john =====
____________________________________________________________________________

There are no stupid questions; just a lot of inquisitive idiots.
__________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? My feeling on the stick question relates to playing drums more than pads versus actual drum heads. I prefer to use the same sticks I use on acoustic drums. I feel this is important in order to maintain the same feel. That said, I often switch stick types/size depending on what I am playing. I think a more important point is to ensure good stick technique. Far too many drummers overplay (hit too hard). While there is definitely a place for "hard hitting", there is equal importance to finessing the kit. This is hard to do on the DTXpress, but doing it on the DTXpress makes it easier on acoustic drums. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
