Hi Russ (and everyone),

Thanks for your kind support, but if I may please ask
everyone to look at this as a lesson to learn from,
not as a reason to lash out further. What happened to
dopmi could happen to any of us - I do not want dopmi
to feel unwelcome because of this. I can understand
how dopmi reached the conclusion he did, and I am
equally as sure that after reading my responses, he
now sees what has really happened, and given a second
chance, he would handle this type of situation
differently next time.

Dopmi, if I can help you in any way with the DTXpress,
I will, as I have and will continue to do for any
member. If any members are savvy enough with SMTP
Headers, maybe they can let us all know who really
sent that message, so all of us can send that person
hate mail.

Re: [DTXpress] Re: F.A.O. Dopmi

2002-10-18 by Walt

Hi dopmi,

Of course it has to be a MIDI question, which is not
my strongest area, but let me try. I think to play a
keyboard voice from a pad, you have to use a different
MIDI channel than #10, which is for the drum voices.
Although I have not experimented with this myself,
there is a table in the DTX manual that lists the
channel assignments (back around page 136 in the
online version of the manual)- and the keyboard voices
are on channels 1-9 and 11-16. In the voice setting
for the pad you're working on, thry changing the MIDI
channel to one of these and see if you can then access
the GM sounds.

To the MIDIxperts out there - am I even close?

Re: F.A.O. Dopmi & hello to everyone

2002-10-21 by tfkienle

hello all,

this is the perfect topic to introduce myself. but first, I just
received this response from yamaha about dopmi's (& my) questions on
this issue:

To access GM sounds on pads, do the following:
1) Press [VOICE] button and strike a pad.
2) Page down to displayMIDI channel number (on lower left of screen,
it
will read ''Ch=10'').
3) Change MIDI channel to 11 for example.
4) Page down until you see ''KIT PC''.
5) Cursor to channel number and make it say ''Ch11= on''
6) Cursor to ''PC='' and change the value . You will hear GM sound at
this point.

If you have further questions, please call our Tech Support line at
714-522-9000.

anyhoo, while trying to find the answer to this & many other
questions, I found this excellent group & have read about 1000 of the
messages! I started from the beginning but stopped once it became
mostly a loop of the same questions.

as for me, I've been playing drums for about 20 years, starting on
acoustic, to roto-tom, to hybrid, to all electronic. I currently
have a main kit which consists of a pintech ergo kik, 7 yamaha tp60
pads, & an old Roland 4 zone triangle pad (forgot the model number).
I use a KAT midiKITI pro to convert it to midi, which then routes to
an emax sampler for drums, followed by another emax II for keyboard
voice triggering & additional percussion.

i've also got a practice kit which i'm using to "get smart" on the
dtxpress, which i plan to use in a separate electronica project. as
such, I'm not as concerned with realistic drum sounds as many of you
on this board. that kit consists of an s&s stealth trigger bass,
dauz snare, hart multipad 6 & one of the aforementioned roland
triangles.

ok, on to my dtxpress experience. I ordered one from
musiciansfriend.com cuz they were selling off the orange version for
$299. well, they screwed up & sent me one that was defective (i
think it was previously returned, but they say that's unlikely). i
got to work with it for a week before sending it back, & I'm
currently awaiting my replacement. I got everything figured out
pretty well except for the above "accessing the GM" sounds problem.
For the kind of music i'm doing, this thing kicks ass. sure, i'd do
some things differently, but all around its great.

gotta run, but i'll post some tips tomorrow that i haven't seen
mentioned yet.

toby

Hi Dopmi,

I can help you with the cymbal stabilizer - Drumbalaya
has then (www.drumbalaya.com). If you look at their
Yamaha section, it is part number VU424400. I can't
remember seeing a toe stop for a Yamaha pedal in my
internet travels, but I'll keep an eye out for them.

We could certainly get "toe stops" if needed. I've seen parts in
the various Yamaha catalogs we paw through and could order one next
time we place an order with Yamaha.

Hi Ed , i sent a e-mail to yamaha and look the reply : "The toe stop
is an OLD part that last appeared on our FP-910, about 10 years ago.
IT WILL NOT WORK on your pedal. Your pedal is not designed to accept
a toe stop. There is no place to mount one"
in fact there is a place to mount one but they don't sell anymore
this piece... after see this un-professional attitude i build my own
one with a mix of different part of different toes stop....
thank's anyway ;-)

DW makes one and GIbraltar makes one. All you need is a small hole
for the single screw to go through. Shouldn't be hard to drill one if
you need to.

I just put the DW toe stop on my Iron Cobra, but didn't like it. I
put one of those made to fit rubber footboard pads on it instead. It
provides enough grip to stop your foot from sliding around.
