crosstalk(?) and rim problems

crosstalk(?) and rim problems

2003-02-21 by ankoanko2003 <adehoop@biddle.nl>

I have the following problems on my dtxpress1:

Hitting tom3 causes cymbal3 (I have a 3rd stereocymbal) to sound many
a time (I suppose this is what you would call "crosstalk"?). Note:
tom3 and cymbal3 do not sound together, it is or tom3 or cymbal3
that is triggered by the hit. I tried something with rejection, but
it didn't work, probably I did something wrong.

Another problem: the rim on my stereo cymbal doesn't work as I would
have it: if a play a quick figure on it, many of the hits are choked.
Changing the "gain" doesn't work here.

It is very difficult(impossible) to play a good ride pattern on the
rim of a stereo pad. It is more suited to crashes and special effects.
BUT if you change the pad type in the trigger setup munu, you can
select a pad type that does not support a choke.Try Misc 1 or Misc 3.
As for the tom/crash thing, sounds like crosstalk. Again, in the
trigger setup: Specific rejection. You can set a rejection value for
rejecting signals from a specific pad. You may also try a different
physical placement of the cymbal pad.

PS remember, with electronic drums, you don't have to hit the drums as
hard as acoustic drums. If you want them louder, turn up the volume!

Thanks Scott,

About the rejection thing: should I set a high rejection value on the
cymbal here (because the cymbal is triggered when I hit the tom)?

NO! only increase it gradually until the crosstalk stops. The menu
reads: TRIG IN= ___ (Your cymbal pad number here_)
SPCRej=___ (Gradually increase this value)
frm=___ ( your tom pad number)
