Report On Little Jade

Report On Little Jade

2003-04-11 by Jade

Hi All...Just wanted to keep you posted on Jade, and
what Dr. Brummer found in the re-check ultrasound.
The hepatic cyst remained unchanged, he does NOT think
it's cancerous. The gallbladder has some changes in
it...it didn't have the swelling it had, but the walls
are thick. There was no evidence of that
"kiwi-gallbladder" that he spoke of a month ago, which
would have indicated immediate surgery. He took a
blood test for bilirubin (gallbladder enzyme), to see
if it was elevated. He just called me @ 5PM and told
me it was normal. However....Jade will have to have a
monthly blood draw to check this bilirubin level, and
make sure it stays normal. Dr. Dave (as he is liked
to be called) said he could start having his regular
food mixed in with the R/D (special diet that is low
cal) until it is 50/50. Jade has lost .7 lbs and
that's a LOT for a small dog-he didn't feel anything
substantial was in R/D to put a little weight back on
him. I do have to watch for any signs of pain,
vomiting and symptoms like he had the last time. If
they re-occur or if the bilirubin levels rise, we are
talking removal of the gallbladder. I am asking
everyone to please continue to keep Jade in your
prayers, that God will sustain him, and heal his
gallbladder.
I want to say THANKS for your compassion and concern
for my "kid."
God Bless You and Yours,
Jade

Jade, I wouldn't know what do to do if I lost my
"kid". We've had her for almost four years now (she's
a replacement for my German Shepard I gave up in a
divorce a few years back. Strange, huh? ;) ).
She's definatley my "kid", and I treat her like it all
the time. And, no, I don't make her wear those awfull
sweaters for dogs. That's a little too much for me.
Anyways, hope all turns out well. We'll sneak in a
quick little bit at this Sunday's service. Now, off
to pick up the wifes copy of the next Harry Potter
movie!

Jade,

That's a relief. Little Jade is obviously in good hands. Plus, he's
got more than 600 drummers serenading him.

Kits, Visu-lites, and the new Yamaha module

2003-04-12 by liberatusvirus

Hi Jade,

Since we're talking about kits, I won't feel so bad about posting on
my situation. As a few of you know from my recent sale and other
matters, I decided to move my kit to a Pearl rack, which has created
all sorts of havoc. The Pearl has square tubing, which basically
makes my old warehouse of hardware--Yamaha, Gibralter, Pintech, you
name it--obsolete. Since the Pearl is so limiting in this respect,
it's taken quite a bit of time to get it set up. I won't be finished
until the end of next week. The swap was further complicated by
other matters, not the least of which was a family crisis (like
yours, Jade, ours was also settled by an ultrasound on April 11),
which, thankfully, turned out well.

One problem that this drumming limbo created was a delay in my
review of Visu-lite's Yamaha hi hat. Although I have been able to do
some work on it, I'm waiting for Tom Pickard to finish making Walt's
so that ultimately we can compare notes. For those who are
interested (and I know that Jade has been waiting patiently), my
initial impressions are very favorable. I've done a little minor
tweaking, of the nonelectronic variety, but, to me, playing on a
real hi hat is unbeatable, and Tom has appeared, at first glance, to
have mimicked the action of Yamaha's controllers very successfully.
He has kindly offered to make any changes that we suggest.
Presumably, these would center around the resistor, which at this
point is set at 100k but could go lower. Walt, who is more familiar
with the HH80, may be have a more definitive sense of it.

I had an interesting talk with Ed Morin the other day. He told me
that Yamaha would have released the new module already were it not
for a licensing problem. At any rate, the new Yamaha, which is
slated to appear in late summer, will be sampler-based (which may be
the source of the licensing difficulty).

Ed

Re: [DTXpress] Kits, Visu-lites, and the new Yamaha module

2003-04-13 by Jade

Ed,
Very interesting, indeed, on the new Yamaha module. I
hope everything is fine with your family...I know the
perils of waiting for medical test results. I will
keep y'all in my prayers....they WORK!!
Sorry to hear about your rack situation. I will be
waiting to hear Walt's critique on the Visulite HHs.
Let me know when you finish your rack. WHY would
Pearl make a square tubed rack?? I had an acoustic
Pearl kit, and LOVED it!

Visu-Lite HH update

2003-04-18 by Walt

Hi All,

Sorry for the silence but I had a modem card die on my
laptop, just as I hit the road for a week, so I could
not get to email.

Anyway I did receive the Yamaha compatible Visu-lite
HH pad yesterday (it got home about the same time I
did), so I hooked it all up and tried to figure out
how to get the HH stand into a good place in my setup.

Mounting the module to the HH stand did not take long,
although I was glad that I had a stand where I could
rotate the legs easily, as this allowed me to avoid
any stand hardware getting between the module and the
pedal. If anyone is considering moving to the
Visu-Lite HHs, I would suggest talking with Ed or I
about attributes of the stand that work best with
them, such as rotating legs, before you go stand
shopping. Ed has posted pictures of his stand in the
files section, and I will try to get a few shots of
mine out there too.

The initial settings came petty easily but I was
having a little dropout, especially on lite rolls, so
I ended up increasing the gain and moving the
attenuation switch to the high position, after which
the response seemed better, and I was able to get lite
rolls to track properly. Harder hits were never a
problem. I did feel that there was more 'width'
between the full open and full closed positions than
what I got on the HH80, so that is a very good thing.

I also like the feel of the HH pads - Tom uses a type
of rubber that is dense and not too thick, so there is
not a lot of dampening of the stick's force as it hits
the pad, which I liked.

I was only able to spend an hour or so with it last
night, so I will let you know how I feel after driving
it around more this weekend. Certainly if anyone has
specific questions just let me know.

Walt
