This has been discussed as extensively as the information and translation from Japanese allows just recently, so you should have a search of the archives. In summary, there seems to be a pair of models with different equipment levels: * STD (standard). Basically equipped as per the current II, with a new rack. * SP (special). New rack plus: new hi-hat controller, two PCY130 round crash cymbals (stereo) and one PCY150 "threepio" (the three sound equivalent of stereo) with bow trigger plus edge and bell switches. Both have the new III module, which is much as per II but with "cleaned up" sounds, particularly cymbals. I want those cymbals, and I want them *now*. Stewart

Paul, Dave Jewell was slightly cagey about what the IIISP would offer when we bagged him, asking us to wait until January for the full story, but the Japanese web page about its launch probably says it all: a couple of three-sound (bow, edge, and bell) round cymbals, the new hi hat on a traditional stand, and a brand new shiny rack that collapses with pads. We're also guessing, based on the chip that OGD was able to procure from Yamaha for his kit x 3, that all of the inputs will allow cymbal choking. The Japanese website also says something about the cymbal samples being improved. We're not exactly sure what that means--maybe that they underwent noise reduction. No technical improvement in the basic electronics seems to be in the offing (still 16 bit, 44khz), and I doubt that new samples are included. The STD version of the III seems to be the same as the II, except for the rack. Did I leave anything out? Ed

Ed, I went back to the Japanese site over the weekend. I think that the PCY150 will be the only 3-zone cymbal in the set. The PCY130/PCY130S will just be mono/stereo(two zone), respectively. I wouldn't think that a manufacturer's price would include VAT or any other applicable tax. Right?
