Re: [DTXpress] Re: resesarch behringer BX 600

2004-02-11 by Ken

After reading all the posts from all of you that have more experience than I, the Behringer BX600 has been returned to the store. They had nothing to replace it with so I wound up getting a full refund. Although it did produce the nice clean highs as I mentioned before, there was a sound in there that I thought shouldn't be there and that is why it was returned. Prolly gonna be better off in the long run. Not sure what I'll get now. Someone mentioned a high end computer speaker setup with a sub woofer.
Any thoughts?

I've never been impressed with Behringer because of its reputation for spotty quality control and for patent infringement (how else do they keep the prices so low?). I kept my tongue in Ken's case because I didn't want him to think that I was playing pig pile with his purchase. I did the same research that Vern did on the web and found the same criticisms by people who bought it (all of them for bass use, I might add). To be fair, several people were satisfied with the amp (again, for bass), and both Steph and McConaghy had good things to say about Behringer's three-way keyboard amp with e-drums. Although the Behringer BX600's reliability is an altogether different matter from its suitability for the DTXpress, it is by no means irrelevant. But if Ken is happy with it, then we should be happy for Ken. The only point at issue is whether we as a group should include it on any list of ancillary products that members generally endorse.

Ken,

This isn't going to help much, but my heart is in the right place.
I've been associated with this board for a long time, and my memory
of details gets a little punchy. Someone within the last five months
or so posted about a high-end computer system that seemed to work
wonders. I specifically asked him to give us a full report on it, and
I think he did. But for the life of me, no matter what I use as a
search term in the archives, I can't find it. I'll try again when I
have a little free time. Does anyone else remember what it was?

Re: [DTXpress] Re: research behringer BX 600

2004-02-11 by Vernon Graner

Ken:

I would venture that a home-audio type amp/spkr setup for a computer
would not be able to stand the type of transient bass that happens with a
kick drum. Years back I used to rehearse with a group of guys through
some Pioneer home stereo speakers, and I flat-out killed um. (spidered
the woofers and blew the tweeters).

Home audio gear (or computer gear for that matter) just isn't designed to
take the type of output a live instrument can produce. They're more
designed to play well eq'd, engineered, produced, compressed music...
(Seems I'm the #1 person to rain on parades, but I'm *really* just trying
to be helpful! Honest!! )

I still think it would be a really good idea to have a look at a pro
series keyboard amp. Myself, I've got two pieces of Behringer gear, one
is working great and one is toast (mixer and eq respectively) so I've
got a 50/50 record with them so far :)

If there's a music store somewhere near you, just ask to hook up to a
keyboard amp, then a bass amp and A/B the systems. I can't imagine that
you won't be amazed at the difference. I think Stephanie has a Behringer
Keyboard amp, and is very happy with it and she has some special
circumstances that make her amp choice very important. Read the archives
and you will be able to see what I'm talking about. :)

BAD DRUMMING Warning Sign... ;)

2004-02-11 by Vernon Graner

I found a very cool website to make those "warning" signs you see in all
the industrial situations, so I decided to make an appropriate one for my
room and thought I'd share :)

http://tinyurl.com/yqgbu [Yahoo Groups Photo Area]

I also uploaded the hi-res PDF of the file in case someone wants to print
it out.. ;)
