Dtxpress III clamps

Dtxpress III clamps

2004-04-28 by afunkydrumr

Hi,

I just got my dtxpress 3.. its a nice unit and all. I do notice the
following problems:

Rack clamps seem a bit light.. not stable as i'd like them to be, do
they sell better ones? not that i want to sink more money into
these, i wonder if Gibraltar clamps would work.

I really have to mash down hard on the hihat pedal even with the
shortest stroke. is this normal?

crosstalk - hihat is triggering when I hit the snare sometimes.

I dunno, I was hoping for better quality in some things.. I wont
say im disappointed yet, too new to the e-drum thing.

What do you all think? Any suggestions, recommendations?

Welcome,

Yes the Gibraltar clamps work fine on the dtxpress rack. The cross
talk between the snare and hihat are typical. You will need to adjust
the specrej between the two pads to a higher number (page 13 of the
reference guide, 1-5. Specfic Rejection).

A starting point would be:

TRIG IN = 2, SPCRej=4 frm= 8

TRIG IN = 8, SPCRej=4 frm= 2

Adjust the SPCRej number (0-9) to the lowest number that is
acceptable.

The other option would be to move the hihat pad to the alternate
mounting location beside the module, if you are a "heavy hitter".
Just remember with e-drums, a lighter touch is better. Let the
electronic do the amplification.

I find the high-hat more sensitive to the snare rather than the other
way round, possibly because the high hat is closer to a more rigid
section of the rack. Setting I use are:

TRIG IN = 2, SPCRej=4 frm= 8

TRIG IN = 8, SPCRej=0 frm= 2

Keith.

Using Keith's setting is probably a better place to start with. My pads
are located so close together, I typically require a higher setting than
most and sometimes forget that.

Interestingly, I just took my left hand side frame apart and refitted
the units so that the snare clamp is inner ( towards the front of the
rack - ie further away from you ) and the hi hat is outer - it feels
a lot better as the hi hat pad is in a more natural ( well for me
anyway ) position with the snare between my legs and the hi hat over
to my left. Feels a lot better.
Can post a pic if you like ?

One thing that someone may be able to help with - the brain - do you
think it would be better mounted off the frame on a seperate stand as
it seems to me it gets a lot of vibration sat up there from the pads -
will it come to any harm ??

Cheers

Andy

Andy,

The brain doesn't really have anything inside that is likely to
suffer from too much jiggling in the way that a CD player would. To
my mind, the best reasons to get it off the rack are that it takes up
too much drumming real estate and it's sometimes too hard to
read/program at its usual locations.

Or you hit it!

Moving the module?? I was thinking about moving mine to the center of
the red bar, puts it at great, safe spot...and I would say less cords
showing/in the way. Has anyone done this?

P.S. My kit is half a week old and its the new DTXpress III ST.

That's exacting where I have mine. Directly under the three front
toms and they are impossible to hit accidentally. You can't see them
from the photo in the gallery area, but they are just above the mixer
and keyboard amp.
